The Powderhouse - new West Somerville newspaper

The Powderhouse is a new twice-monthly newspaper for zip code 02144, brought to you by Neil McCabe, editor of North Cambridge's The Alewife.

Neil handed me a copy of the first issue a few days ago as I walked past Mike's Restaurant; coincidentally, the first issue has an article about that establishment. He plans to distribute the paper through newsboxes and local merchants. If you don't find a hardcopy, here's the first issue as a PDF.

Out of curiosity, the paper makes reference to Quiznos not being allowed to come into the Square due to efforst from the Davis Square Task Force:

"The Davis Square Task Force’s successful efforts in not allowing Quizno’s and Burger King into the square, he said."

Putting aside the fact that his is not well edited, was the Quizno's supposed to go where the Chipotle is going in now? Because I fail to see the difference... (and would have preferred a Quizno's).

Quizno's was supposed to go next to Sovereign Bank, where Disc Diggers was. While the Davis Square Task Force showed little support for it, the real deciding factor was probably an objection from the neighboring property owner, who would no longer be able to open his window without having exhaust fumes from the restaurant kitchen coming in.

I don't remember a Burger King ever being proposed, but maybe I wasn't paying attention.
