Annual Town Arts Meeting, 6:30 tonight, May 5th.

(forwarded to davis_square because of the large number of artistic people here!)

This looks like an interesting meeting. The plan to buy the old armory on Highland Ave and use it as an arts center fell through, but the mayor may have another plan for a city-wide arts center. (Rumor has it, by the way, that the armory was purchased by the owners of the Middle East. So perhaps it'll be used for something better than yet more condos.)

Join us for the annual Town Arts meeting. This Somerville Arts Council
meeting, held with the Mayor, Joseph A. Curtatone, provides a forum to
enable the public to voice their interests, concerns, and support for the
arts in Somerville.

For this year's meeting, we will revisit the issue of facility space and the
activities of and benefits from the arts on economic development. Four
presenters will frame the meeting for comments.

* The Council will provide a short update on programming, changes and
additions, and its past and current efforts focused on the above topic.
* Meri Jenkins, the Economic Development program manager from the
Massachusetts Cultural Council, will speak briefly about! the ways in which
the arts has and will continue to contribute to Somerville's cultural and
economic vitality.
* A representative from ARTSomerville will speak about their efforts to
develop a cultural arts facility.
* The Mayor of Somerville will offer his ideas and suggestions as to how
the City and its residents can work together to strengthen the arts.

Please come out, show your support and thoughts, and spread this email to
those who may join you.

"Aldermanic" is a word? That's fantastic!
