Not already!

This morning, the Richardson's Ice Cream window at the Somerville Theatre displays a sign: "Closed for the winter"

they were never open when I wanted to go there anyway. Dunno why.

[identity profile] thetathx1138.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Bummer, I never got a chance to grab ice cream from there.

Honestly, JP Licks fills most of my Davis Square ice cream needs just fine, but that sucks. Sure, it's a little chilly today, but it seems like they could've afforded to hold out for another week or two.

NO! you will not take away the end of my summer!
someone needs to learn the meaning of the word "winter".
(I'll give you a hint: in this climate it doesn't follow summer. Nor start in September.)

They have the worst hours anyway, I have often wanted to get ice cream from there, only to find it closed. Once basically in my face. that was fun.

By Sept 10th? Aww, that's cold...

BTW, Ron, a few years back you were planning a little bike tour around Somerville that didn't involve hills or busy streets. I couldn't make it then but I was really interested in it; are you planning anything similar soon?

[identity profile] hrafn.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
What kind of Boston ice cream place closes for the -winter- anyway??

[identity profile] slinkr.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
The kind with no indoor waiting/seating area

[identity profile] infinitemorning.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
To be fair, I can't imagine the open window onto the street would be much fun for the employees in the winter. Do they even serve the ice cream inside at all? I was under the impression that you could only get it from the window out in front of the building.

[identity profile] infinitehotel.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
And JP Licks is no longer serving summer flavors like cucumber; everything is all maple and apple and turkey.

Bah.

[identity profile] infinitemorning.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
...turkey?

TURKEY?

I do not get JPL sometimes.

[identity profile] wallacestreet.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
No need to resort to JP Licks for your Davis Square Ice Cream. Mr. Crêpe next door serves Richardson's ice cream (in more reasonable sizes) all through the winter. You can sit and eat it, or take it out to the Square and gloat (to yourself) over how much better yours is than all those other JP Lickers.

That might have been a slight exaggeration.

But after the bloody mary sorbet, I wouldn't put it past 'em....

[identity profile] kidsmokes.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
this is good news.

[identity profile] pushupstairs.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Sullivan's in Chelmsford is open from I think early April (around April vacation from school) to Christmas Eve Eve. I always loved getting quarts of pumpkin ice cream for a huge discount in December as they tried to empty out inventory.

[identity profile] skate97.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. While Richardson's is ok, I still prefer JP Licks. *shrug*

[identity profile] blondeamazon.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, I love pumpkin stuff! I will have to stalk them at Yule time and get me some cheap ice cream.

[identity profile] aquaflame16.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
But they don't have peppermint stick!

[identity profile] mamabunny72.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
For one thing, a little kiddie size cup at JPL is ridiculous at $2.99! But I cannot convince my kid to go anywhere beside the "cow ice cream store" if we're in Davis Sq and wanting ice cream. Dang, brand loyalty starts so young....

[identity profile] o0dano0o.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Any idea if they have the purple cow flavor?

[identity profile] wallacestreet.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Often but not always.

I got the same feeling today when I walked into Hallmark to buy a birthday card, and saw Christmas cards and decorations. GAHHHH

[identity profile] dianamp04.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
To be fair though, Christmas starts at Hallmark in July (totally not kidding - I use to work at one, the ornaments are unveiled early July at a midnight party).

This is sad news, I miss Richardson's already. I was frequent customer this summer....
