Hooray

Everyone in Davis Square is going insane right now, mostly about question 2 than Obama...

I was just down there...and the cars were honking and people were screaming...

Were any of you guys one of them?

I did clap as I wended my tired way home.

Around 9:30 pm, the Second Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society band was playing in front of the Holland Street T entrance, then marched down the sidewalk to Denise Provost's and Pat Jehlen's party at Sabur near Teele Square.

Edit: The Somerville Journal made a video of the parade. My bicycle and I show up very briefly around 0:24 into it:

Thank you, United States of America, for becoming more like Davis Square today.

That line totally deserves its own post.

(And people in my vicinity were certainly celebrating way harder over Obama than over any of the questions. Not because they didn't go our way, but because of the relative importance.)

Your wish is my command.

Just drove by and there were no crowds that I saw and two cop cars with their lights flashing. =:(

Just walked through and there was a chanting, cheering crowd of some sort in front of Orleans.

From around 1:20am to 1:50am, a mob of Tufts students marched down to the Square shouting "U. S. A.", "yes we can". singing patriotic songs, and generally cheering for Obama. They dispersed peacefully (still chanting and cheering on their way back up Wallace St).
Some photos of the celebration:

When was the last time a group of college kids spontaneously sang the national anthem?

[identity profile] m-b-w.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a very large and very loud crowd - much more so than after events like the Red Sox winning the World Series. They woke me up and I didn't mind a bit!

No.

I find it hard to believe that all of that was "mostly about Question 2."

On reflection, I think that remark was probably meant to be a joke.

I'm just glad the neighbors didn't complain about all the cheering and screaming coming from the mob at my house. :) (We had the windows open because it got HOT!)
