Need A Room

Ok. I'm going to try this one more time and again if I have to. I need suggestions from the Davis Sq. community. Each year I visit the area and stay at Morrison House B&B. Well I waited too long for reservations and they are booked on the weekend of ART BEAST (festival) July 17th. I need some place to stay - 4-5 days, must be cheap, clean near Davis and the Red Line. Anyone have any suggestions???

you can try the Cameron Ave Inn, it's across the street from our house, and right on the bike path. My parents stayed there 2 years ago, 10 days for $500. don't know what the rate would be for shorter stay, or if they have availability, though...

My father-in-law always stays at the Mary Prentiss Inn. It's in Cambridge, on the other side of Porter Sq., about 6 or 7 blocks to the Porter Sq. T (also red line) and maybe 20 min walk from Davis.

I've never stayed there, but dropping in on my in-laws there, it's really quite nice.

Depending on your definition of "near" you might do ok with the hotel on Mass Ave just into Arlington.

Homewood Suites (http://homewoodsuites1.hilton.com/en_US/hw/hotel/BOSARHW-Homewood-Suites-by-Hilton-Cambridge-Arlington-Massachusetts/index.do).

But used to be Hawthorn Suites, so you may find people calling it that in old blog entries (here and elsewhere).

Irving House (http://www.cambridgeinns.com/irving/) is near Harvard, and I'm told it's lovely. (I don't know about cheap, but then I wouldn't expect any B&B in Camberville to be.)

Around the corner from that is A Friendly Inn (http://www.afinow.com/) (yeah, hokey name).

FYI, the name of the festival is Art Beat (http://www.somervilleartscouncil.org/programs/artbeat/). There was one year where due to the theme, it was called Art Beast, but other than 2007, no S.

Another option is to find someone here to let you crash at their place, either by posting here or using the CouchSurfing.org web site.

Good luck!

Yeah, couchsurfing or anything of the like, definitely isn't safe.

I'm glad you found an Inn. After reading this thread I'm going to suggest some of these places to friends of mine who visit from out of state.
Enjoy your stay.

actually, at least two people i know personally participate in the couchsurfing community and are quite safe, and i've met some of the people they've had stay as well. many come out to see what boston/cambridge has to offer and meet new people while they're passing through.

though i agree, i myself would not be brave enough to stay with a person i've never met as opposed to an inn/motel/etc.

Tagging this "lodging". Back entries may be helpful. But note that 'Meacham Manor' no longer exists.

A Cambridge House B&B is on Mass. Ave. very near Davis Square.

You could also try Air Bed & Breakfast
