what about cabs?  are they all the same price, or are some good to call like if you're stuck somewhere in boston or need to go the airport etc?  thanks!

They're all the same price, but they're not all the same knowledgeable about particular areas of town, especially Somerville. I always take Green Cab, but to get them from the airport you have to call them and then wait upstairs. Once they show up they do a good job though, they definitely know how to get places in Somerville, unlike many of the Boston cabs waiting at the taxi line.

Cabs can't be called to pick up outside of their area of operations. Some weird legal thing. My favorite Somerville / Medford company is Green Cab though. Good prices and decent cars and usually not too long a wait. 617-628-0600.

Oh, addendum - Green Cab will pick you up at the airport from the "arrivals" deck. rikchik is right about that. They will also pick up from the car rental places at the airport...and I actually think that they are cheaper than Boston taxis.
