What the f is going on here? Jackhammers have been going steady starting around 10 PM, and now a fire truck just showed up. Gas leak?

That would be my assumption - jackhammers don't generally come out at night unless it's absolutely necessary. And normally firetrucks are not party to construction, unless the fire department is getting in on the roadwork detail thing.
