Good place for learning Muay Thai?

Hey there. I'm looking for a good place to take some Muay Thai classes. Different types of kickboxing or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu would be other good options. However, I'm basically working a summer job and trying to save money for going back to college in the Spring, so I am both fairly busy and frugal. It seems like I need to find a place where I could pay based on classes attended rather than needing to sign up for months at a time. Do any of you fine fellows know a place that meets this description?

Well, Sityodtong has a minimum commitment of three months for $600. That doesn't work too well with trying to save money. I'd really much prefer a pay-per-class system, since my work schedule changes frequently and I don't want to pay for a whole month where I can only attend two classes.

I don't know how deep they are, but they do have student discounts if you have a student ID. Might be worth asking about.

Redline Fight Sports has a student rate of $90/month. They do sanda, but they compete in muay Thai competitions.

Tohoku Judo Club in Somerville is $60/month and even cheaper for students. They are a bit less structured than other judo clubs, but they do a fair amount of groundwork, if that's what you're interested in.

One of the reasons I stopped training there. Was there for 2 1/2 years and they got a bit too greedy (used to be no contract and much lower rates) and I was getting less out of it since a lot of the focus was on fighters (MMA and Muay Thai) and sadly not on the people paying the bills. Otherwise, a great place to train but their business model ostracized a lot of folk.

Yes, Kenny "KenFlo" Florian and other notables train there. You have to be pretty committed though.

Hi. I have a question. I'm considering joining Sityodtong after I get back from a trip and things have settled down around the house. When you say "committed," I'm curious about what you mean. I know they're top-notch, which comes at a price ($$$, fitness, etc.), but I'm curious just how crazy it is for beginners.

As a reference point, I briefly trained in another state a couple of years ago. I'd come home covered in bruises and almost broke my nose twice. I didn't mind getting banged up, other than dropping my guard. *grumble*

I've gone to one trial class and may go back again later, and it seems like the beginners don't do all that much all-out sparring. In the class I checked out, it was mostly pads and conditioning.

Thanks. To be fair, the bruises were from the pads! Either I really am skin & bones or I always landed mules for partners.

If you're T-bound, this won't help. But I can't say enough nice things about this place (http://www.fightbackboston.com). Sensei Nick is great about flexible schedules; the dojo does blocks of classes (rather than time commitments) for different prices. MMA style, includes jiu jitsu and Muay Thai. Enjoy.

I studied here for a bit before I injured myself. :) They were pretty great.

I think they lost a few (http://www.universalhub.com/node/24997) of their kickboxing instructors recently.

They might be a bit too expensive but Red Line (http://www.redlinefightsports.com) in Central seems fine. I have a ridiculously fit friend who does kickboxing there and loves it. I checked it out once and it seemed decent enough. They also offer loads of grappling classes and a separate boxing-only program that's $60/mth.
