Recommendation for watch repair?

I'm seeking a recommendation for someone who can repair the band on my watch. The band is a metal cuff that's attached to the watch by some kind of spring hinges (so you can open the cuff to get it on your wrist and then close it around your wrist).

One of the spring hinges has given up the ghost. My guess is that the best person to repair this would be someone who repairs the clockwork bits of watches. Can anyone recommend such a person? Or someone else in a different line of work (jewelry repair?) who'd be able to fix a problem like this?

(Someplace I can get to via the T or the bus would be preferable but not necessary.) Thanks!

There's a watch repair shop in Porter Square on the corner of Davenport and Mass Ave. (under the Tibetan shop, same block as Zing Pizza and Dunkin' Donuts).

I second this recommendation. I've had better luck there than at Swiss Watchmaker, who did fix my watch, but only after some delays.

Thirding this recommendation. The guy who runs the shop is wonderful, and he does very quick and thorough watch repairs.

Fourthing. Love that shop. His prices and service are excellent.

Swiss Watchmaker on Church St. in Harvard Square. They are not the best at Customer Service, but they'll get the job done for sure.

This is the place that helped me set my new watch. They were helpful and friendly in the brief interaction I had with them.

Swiss Watchmaker is a top-notch outfit. I've regularly experienced great customer service there, but that might be because I also love to geek out about watches. They aren't inexpensive, but they will certainly do the job right.

I like Swiss Watchmaker. I find their work is generally good. The only thing about them, which I find richly amusing, is that they are usually late in opening -- I think their posted opening time is 9am, but usually they open at 9:10 if not 9:15.

I took my watch it for a simple repair, and they said it would take 2 weeks and cost $80. I took it to a jeweler in Davis (now defunct) and the man there fixed it on the spot and charged me $5.

Shop around!

I really miss that place and that old guy. He was really nice and helped me out when I needed.

I've had the same experience as smoagendash with Swiss Watchmaker - it took a week to get their estimate and then the estimate was twice what the watch was worth (~$200) and would take 2 weeks for the repair (they claimed the watch needed a complete overhaul). I replaced the battery, and the watch has kept perfect time ever since.

Odd - I've always had quick turnaround and reasonable prices there, and the one time a watch they fixed broke again within 2 months or so, they re-fixed it for free.

Not in Davis but T-Accessible

There's also the Watch Hospital in Downtown Crossing
