It's the little things....

So Diesel no longer toasts bagels anymore :( and I'm just not crazy about untoasted bagels for some reason. Is there another place in the square (besides Dunkin Donuts) to get a bagel fix first thing in the morning?

This raises the much bigger question of why there are no real bagel bakeries in Somerville (or Cambridge, unless you count Brueggers). I would think there is a market for something that wasn't trucked in from out of town.

Please, someone, open a bagel shop! Maybe Lyndells could add them to their list of confections?

bagel shop! squirrelly wrath!

not enough Jews on this side of the river?

I dunno, are there really not enough Jews to find one bagel cook? The goyim eat bagels too.

Exactly! We regularly bought bagels in the supermarket in the extremely WASPY small town I grew up in in Oregon.

And we toasted them. Maillard reaction FTW!

I'm not one, but I love bagels!

I would think Iggy's would count for Cambridge, at least technically.

They wouldn't toast them because they're a bakery, not a food-service establishment. But they should definitely count as a real bagel bakery in Cambridge.

I've baked my own bagels before. It's time-consuming and labor-intensive -- much more so than baking regular loaves of bread. Not that that's really an answer to your question, but it might be related in some way.
