Buy a Brown School Card

In addition to great bargains at the yard sales on Francesca Ave this morning, stop by the sale at 30 Francesca Ave and buy a Brown School Card. $10 will buy you a card that will save you money at 18 local businesses in Davis & Ball Sq including Redbones, Diva, Mr. Crepe & The Somerville Theatre. The card can be used an unlimited number of times (until it expires, 8/31/10) This is the only fundraiser for the Brown School (public K-6 school on Willow & Kidder) So not only will you save money, you will prevent kids from trying to sell you overpriced wrapping paper, candles and candy.

Community meeting regarding development at 343-349 Summer St.

Wednesday Sept 30 at 7pm. Dilboy VFW 371 Summer St.

Alderman Gewirtz will be hosting a meeting regarding the proposed development at 343-349 Summer St. Development involves the parking lot adjacent to the Dilboy Post / Winter Hill Bank Building and the "shaft site". Currrent proposal is for a 4 story 40,000sqft mixed commercial / residential building on the lot with 30 condos and a new 8000sqft VFW post on the shaft site with parking. Developer will be presenting plans at the meeting.

This large project will require a special permit, 2 variances and moving a bar license to the new VFW site so community involvement is essential.

Call Alderman Gewirtz at 617-718-0792 or mail at rebekah@rcn.com for more info

New to the area, seeking internist/family medicine doctor...

Hi! I'm new to Boston/Somerville, and while I know this discussion comes up a lot on this community, I thought I would throw it out there again and get people's opinions.

I just moved here, and have been having strange and scary medical problems for months now. I'm usually a fairly healthy person, so I tend to freak out when it feels like my whole body is falling apart at once. I'm also a bit of a hypochondriac...

Anyway, I'm looking for a female doctor who is:
1. patient and non judgmental, doesn't rush you out of the office
2. can look at my body as a whole and try to figure out what's going on. (I.e., not someone who says, "You've been nauseous for five months? Oh wait - you have a UTI. That must be the whole solution.")
3. It would be great to find someone trained in women's health as well, so that they can do pelvic exams, etc. as well.
4. Can take appointments for the next day or next week, etc.

I've been going to a dr. in Brookline, because years ago I used to live in Brookline. I got a really sketchy vibe the last time I went in there, and sure enough, when I looked her up on yelp, I felt like I was reading the script for a horror movie.

I'd rather not go back there... but I do have a car so it doesn't have to be right in Davis or Somerville.

I don't know the Harvard Vanguard system, but most people I've asked seem to like it? I have good insurance, so I can really go anywhere. Dr. Fishman at Somerville Family Practice seems to get mixed reviews... any thoughts on that practice, or on Harvard Vanguard, or recommendations otherwise?

A few others that come up on my insurance website, if anyone has ever seen them:

Dr. Henrietta Barnes in Cambridge
Dr. Parra Tomkins
Dr. Lisa Kunins in Arlington

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Never After Ticket

I have a ticket to the Sunday 3pm matinee of Never After that I won't be able to use because I will be at a memorial service then.  Does anybody want it?  I could really use some of my money back, but if this ticket is just gonna end up a scrap of paper in my wallet, I'd rather someone see the show.

Mike Capuano needs signatures

Mike Capuano needs 10,000 signatures in order to have his name added to the ballot for the special election to fill Ted Kennedy's vacated US Senate seat.

I'll be heading to Davis Sq ~4pm today to set up a table to collect signatures. I plan to be somewhere in the vicinity of the MBTA T stop adjacent to the theatre. Please come introduce yourself, and sign the petition.
