Davis Square Farmers Market opens today!

Subject line pretty much says it all: today is the first day of the Davis farmers market.

It's open Wednesdays noon-6pm in the parking lot at Day and Herbert streets.

Yay!!!

(The Union Square market (Saturdays 9am-1pm in the plaza) starts June 5.)

I'm curious to see what's there so early in the season. At Harvard on Sunday, the only produce were green onions and green garlic. Otherwise, it was seedlings, bread, and meat. I went to a farmers' market in California a couple of weeks ago and it almost made me cry...

Same here. Our strawberries are better, though, when we get 'em.

As an aside, how do we get these guys to keep the market open later than 6 pm so that those of us with, you know, JOBS, can actually go to it without having to leave early??? In general this is something that drives me nuts about area farmers markets. Especially since it seems like at 6 pm when they close, the crowds are just starting to pour in and there is a lot of produce to be sold but they are PACKING IT UP! WTF?

Hanson's Farm of Framingham will have strawberries for sale at next Wednesday's market.

non-california strawberries?! that's... surprising.

They told me that they had given some strawberries away as samples earlier yesterday. These were all gone by the time I arrived, but they said they would have plenty for sale next week.

I bought bok choi and chard at the Central Sq. market on Monday. There were also other greens and lots of seedlings as well as bread and cheese.
