Somerville, where we celebrate the 4th of July on the 1st

from the city press release:

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone invites all residents and community members to the City's annual Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration, scheduled for Thursday, July 1st beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Trum Field [Broadway and Cedar St]. The evening's entertainment includes performances by the 2010 Somerville Sunsetters, local Disco-Funk band Booty Vortex, the USO Metropolitan New York Performers, and ... the U.S. Navy Band Northeast Pops Ensemble, leading up to a 30-minute fireworks display at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Please take note of the street closures and parking restrictions for Broadway, Cedar Street, and Charles Ryan Road, as well as the diversions of buses 80 and 89.

Somehow the 1st of July is much better than the end of June like they did last year. (It's almost always the Thursday before the 4th of July, so sometimes that's the 3rd of July, sometimes it's the 1st of July, and sometimes it's in *June*.)
