New Sacco's / Flatbread first impressions

Went to opening night at Sacco's, which now has a huge bar and hippie pizza place welded onto it (with a pizza called 'Coevolution'? 'Peace and Love' written on the walls? The girls bathroom has a painted poster promoting CSAs -- sort of different from the old digs!)

I would say, overall, really good pizza, good beer, and it's fun to drink and bowl without having to bring a flask. I was totally confused by their "pay by the string" (per person / per game) method of charging for the lanes. But otherwise, it was a totally good time.

Anyone else gone?

Pay by the string is the usual method for "real" bowling alleys (i.e. whose main purpose is bowling for individuals/leagues, rather than "disco/light show party bowling") around here. And it was how I always paid for it at the old Sacco's.

And yay! b/c those names & decor tell me that this is a chain of the original Vermont flatbread pizza company, which I love!

Not quite -- the Vermont place is American Flatbread, while this one is Flatbread Company, a former licensee that severed ties with American Flatbread by mutual agreement.

Both are now small chains, but (so far at least) operating in separate territories.

See earlier discussion here.

I went last night as well. Pizza was great, and overall I think it's going to be a great addition to th square. I guess they're going to have the bowling alley open from noon daily, but the restaurant doesn't open 'til 5pm.

Do they have a sign? I went by on Friday, when they weren't open to the public yet, and I only knew what it was because I'd heard about it already.

No sign yet -- maybe it hasn't been delivered. They have a temporary folding sign sitting on the sidewalk outside the front door.

I went by on Thursday for their friends and family event/trial run. It was awesome, pizza was delicious, beer was good. My boyfriend is from NH and used to go to Flatbread's North Conway location all the time and he can't believe his luck.

Yes, it's pretend!hippie central. That's part of their shtick. :)

I just got back from there, with a friend and her two friends. The food was awesome, and the service was great. But we think Flatbread should consider installing a clear glass or plexiglass barrier between the restaurant and the bowling lanes, because loud noise from the lanes really carries over into the restaurant.

We went on Saturday early. The place was filled with kids, including our little one. The service had some serious problems (which they apologized for) but the food was great. I won't comment further on the service as I think things will work out but the food (both salad and pizza) was better than other locations of the same chain for us.

They kind of have a mismatch on chair/table sizes in the middle of the room. I was not inconvenienced by it but a shorter person might be. I suspect they will have to sort that out as well.

I believe they are selling Ryan & Wood distilleries liquor, which is a new craft-distiller from Gloucester (and, full disclosure, owned by my uncle & cousin). They do sell it at their other locations. Try the Beauport vodka, Knockabout gin, and Folly Cove rum (available at Downtown Wine & Spirits, too)!

(my uncle and cousin, of course, being two separate people)

Also went by on Saturday, ate at bar and bowled. Bartenders were very very friendly - especially one who used to work at Redbones? She was very down with the Davis Square business gossip, I enjoyed that. ^_^ I had a blast.

The pizza - they should add the veggie special (cheese, tomato, garlic, w/balsamic, nummy) to the regular menu. The more "pizza" ike pizza, with sauce and cheese, was less special and could have used more toppings, but was still nice.

The bowling - was bowling and a lot of fun. You can drink and bowl which is fabulous and as long as you avoid the lanes with a column in the middle of them (numbers 3 and something large) you'll be happy. I do miss the benches and they seemed slightly short on scoring tables. It's the same Sacco's score sheets as before. =)

And those must be really old score sheets, since the phone numbers have only 7 digits, and they have an ad for Khoury's State Spa.

Awesomeness at the FBP & B

We went on their first night and had a great time. Everyone was really nice and my male friends thought all the girls were very cute- like super cute. I walked into the glass window thinking it was a door, well, ran actually. Maybe some bird cut outs or fingerprints/smudges. I'm sure I'll get kicked off LJ for this post, right?
