Dry Cleaners

Which Dry cleaner in the Davis area do you guys prefer? I've been to Zoots in Porter before, but they take way too long and they are expensive. Any recommendations?

I tagged this as 'laundry'. Some of the old entries with this tag may be useful.

I really dislike that Zoots. I've gone there and they just don't listen--meaning they don't hear you when you point out a stain, and then they don't get it out. Thumbs down.

Porter Square Dry Cleaning on the street right behind the shopping area is pretty good, and lately I've been using North Cambridge Laundry (http://www.yelp.com/biz/north-cambridge-laundromat-and-dry-cleaning-cambridge).

I like Winn Dry Cleaners, right in the square, but I haven't really compared them to anyone else.

The North Cambridge Laundry is a very solid operation - personal service from Mustafa and Monica, good prices, and good quality. It's on Mass Ave in the little triangular plaza with the Cambridge House of Pizza and a convenience store; right where the linear park and Cameron Ave. cross Mass Ave.

They also have excellent coin-operated laundry facilities, with heavy duty machines that they maintain well.

Mustafa and Monica are wonderful, fast, and reasonably priced. Also, fwiw, they are very careful about where they staple the little dry cleaning tags. This pleases me.

I laundered some bedthings that were too big for my home washer at North Cambridge Laundry last week. I rarely dry clean anything so I can't comment on that, but the coin-op facilities and service were exceptionally good.

Hmm. We're looking for a new laundromat. Perhaps we should check them out.

I used to do all my laundry at North Cambridge Laundry, both dry-cleaning and coin-op, and had a entirely positive experience. I highly recommend them.

In Teele Square, we've been using Chris Fine Tailoring for 15 years.
Run by an older Asian immigrant couple who are always there and remember us by face.

The only thing I wish they'd do is start using environmentally friendlier cleaning chemicals.

I love this place. I ALWAYS forget my claim ticket and the woman always remembers which clothes are mine. Her memory is incredible. I've even gone in there without my wallet and she let me take my clothes anyway and told me to pay next time.

Is there really any such thing as environmentally friendly dry cleaning chemicals?

[identity profile] pekmez.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here, in fact if my husband drops off the clothes and I pick them up she still knows who they are.

I said friendli*er*. I can't believe it's an environmentally good process no matter what, but there are ways to do it "better" at least. I figure that using dry cleaners 3x a year or so lowers our personal impact some.

I did some research about 'cleaner' dry cleaners. I'll post as a comment to the OP

Chris Fine is awesome. I use them for dry cleaning and tailoring, and have been very, very happy with both services.

I use Anton's and find them pretty reliable. They frequently give coupons, so it cuts the cost down a bit. They're outside of Porter Sq on Somerville Ave in the plaza w/Starbucks. Not exactly convenient to Davis, I know.

Buywithme or Groupon has had a few 1/2 off coupons for Zoots, though you have to be a "new" customer (haven't used them for the past 6 months).

Porter Square Dry Cleaners and Tailors at 89 Elm St. are great. They are a local mom-and-pop business, do good work (fast) at a reasonable price, and are really nice folks!

YES

This place is great! Agreed

RiteWay

Rite-Way Dry Cleaners between Porter and Harvard hasn't changed in 50 years. Locally owned, great service. They are one of the only ones left that do drycleaning onsite. One time I needed a suit done for an interview the next day and they drycleaned it within 4 hours.

I've used Bush cleaners, inside the Lesley bldg that's located on the Cambridge side of Porter Square, on Mass Ave. They use environmentally friendly products for dry cleaning - clothes don't come back with that awful chemical smell.
