recommendation requests

I'm hoping for recommendations for the following:

  • A good insurance agent with a local office who has good rates and explains things in little words.
  • A travel agent.
  • A chiropractor who's local (T-accessible) and good, and ideally some combination of female, not-insane (ie doesn't belive chiropractic practice can cure AIDS), gentle (my last chiropractor used an activator), cheap or accepts insurance, and has some experience with hand problems or RSIs. I realise I won't get all of those, but I'm hoping, since my last chiropractor was all of the above except local, alas.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I like the people at Garrett Lynch Insurance in Davis (on Highland). They're very nice and their rates seem reasonable, although I really have no idea.

I've found the people there friendly too, and when I got rear ended last month, the claims process went pretty smoothly.

Here are some local chiropractors that are T-accessible: Chiropractors (http://cambridge.zami.com/Chiropractor/General)

Do avoid the 2nd-to-last doctor on the list, though. She is exactly the kind of insane you describe.

I use the Garrett office on College Ave. in the block above Store 24. Very nice people.

Note: Car insurance rates are set by the state, so I don't think you can shop based on that.

My sisters both use a wonderful chiro near the corner of 3rd St and Cambridge St. in Cambridge, just up from Lechmere. Her name is Candance Maddalo at 257 Cambridge St.

I've been fairly happy with WT Phelan for insurance...

I used to go to Amethyst Chiropractic in Davis Square, right near the clock on Elm Street. However, my chiropractor from that practice set up her own place in Arlington, and she was so good (and I started getting acupuncture from her, too), I went with her. Amethyst has a habit of utilizing practitioners who do non-force or subtle force techniques, but I most highly recommend Debra Byer in Arlington, at 180 Mass Ave (which is accessible by T). Her office phone is (781) 646-4445. Debra is absolutely *wonderful*. She also takes insurance, which means my visits only cost the copay. And I don't know about hand problems/RSIs, but I'm a massage therapy student, so she does do a significant amount of work on my arms and shoulders. :)

I asked Steve, too, but in case you see it first, when you say non-force, does that mean I won't get cracked? Because I do love getting cracked and it helps a lot. I don't want that to be the end of it, but mmm.... nice....

No, she does crack me. She usually tries other methods first, to try to make less of a shock on the body's mechanism. My neck gets cracked every time I go, and usually somewhere in my mid-to-low back vertebra. But sometimes my hips don't need cracking so much as they need encouragement to go back to normal, just a small adjustment that can be done with some stretching or bolstering. And Deb also does adjustments for things you wouldn't *want* cracked, like cranial bones (yep! surprisingly useful!) and sacral bones.

I go to Davis Square Chiro near the Au Bon Pain. It's a male doctor but he's nice, accepts insurance, does not use an activator, is not creepy and is not insane.
