horseback riding

i have two openings for more riding students! my barn is about fifteen miles north of somerville in north reading, but i can offer transportation from davis square, since that's where i live myself :) we can take one person (any level) at a time in a private lesson, or we could do a double lesson (two people riding together) if one of the people already has a little bit of horse experience. times are fairly negotiable, except that fridays are right out. if you're coming from somerville with me, you should plan on about three hours per lesson including transportation.

my horses are icelandic, which means they they have an additional fast, smooth "soft" gait called the tölt as well as the american-typical walk, trot, and canter. we teach total beginners (including scared beginners) through beginning eventing, and are located right next to the harold parker state forest for trail riding. i'm a massachusetts-licensed instructor, and also a certified instructor at level 1 of centered riding. (centered riding is a mental and physical approach to how to ride that applies across disciplines, so it works for english, western, dressage, jumping, icelandics, everything on a horse :)

ETA (thanks ron!) here is pricing info: the barn charges $25 per rider per lesson (that's for their insurance and the use of their facility.) additionally, i charge $40 for a single rider, $50 for two (the double-lesson pricing is a special i'm running for this summer, usually it's just $40 per rider). transportation's free since i have to get myself there anyway :)

Perhaps it is gauche to ask, but: pricing?

Thirded request! I am currently working on some health issues, but my reward for reaching a big lifegoal is treating myself to riding lessons. :D

I don't live in the area anymore or I'd be interested, but I can confirm that Icelanding horses are really excellent. Also, adorable?

I got a Welsh pony for my 10th birthday, graduated to a retired barrel-racing quarterhorse by the time I was 11. I played with the barrels, did alot of trail riding and basically lived on horseback throughout my teens. When I moved away, I couldn't take my horses with me, so my folks sold them (I lived 6 hours away and couldn't be there to care for them, so it was the best choice).

I've been aching to get back up ever since, and I'm in my 30s now. ;D Hopefully soon!

A friend and I are interested. We're both relatively experienced riders and very comfortable around horses. Would you please email me at ataralas @ gmail so we can talk about scheduling?

Thanks!

I'm very interested in lessons for me and my partner who live in Davis. I have some experience with Icelandic horses... I've been riding in Iceland a couple times and my parents have two Icelandic horses. My partner has less experience, but has had a couple lessons. Just needs time around horses to gain comfort level and balance. Learning to tolt would be a bonus. Please get in touch:
