The garden will enter its purple phase soon

Over the next few weeks, you might want to make a point of wandering past the bikeway community garden behind the Brooks drugstore. Because it's about to enter its purple phase!

We've coordinated the plantings in the front beds so that things of similar color tend to bloom at the same time, and soon the iris, sage, ornamental thistle, flowering onion, and many other purple flowers will be in full display. It's quite dramatic.

In summer, the garden will fade into autumnal colors, with mostly orange, red, and yellow. And then we'll plant more tulips for the spring.

We didn't initially plan it this way. It's just that I happened to notice the beginnings of a pattern some years ago, and ever since, have been buying plants of the right color scheme and blooming time for us to put in during our fall workday.

That's an artist named Nick. We had to bump him out of the garden when me moved to Arlington, but he's back in town now and promises to start keeping up the totems again!

I had no idea we had any color coordination! How cool of us!
PS- my plot is very color-coordinated right now. All the weeds I haven't been able to get out and pull are lush and green.
