Fondue and shabu-shabu

Does anyone have recommendations for where to go to get fondue in the Somervile/Cambridge area? I'm not talking just cheese as an appetizer or chocolate for dessert, though. I want a place that does varied appetizers, a main course of meats and vegetables cooked in hot oils and then dessert fondues; the whole works!

Alternately, does anyone know of restuarants that do shabu-shabu style meals?

Shabu Zen in Chinatown does shabu shabu with burners built into the table. Fun, relatively cheap (unlike Japan!) and open for lunch. Not the most practical meal for summer though; sitting over a boiling tureen of broth in the 90 degree heat takes the fun out it right fast. :)

Echo echo!

They were also extra-super-vegetarian-friendly, which I believe would translate to similar for any other dietary issues.

i second the shabu-zen comment... i love it there. fantastic food.

for fondue, check out "the wine cellar" on mass ave. just over the bridge from MIT... the whole restaurant specializes in fondue, just like you're looking for. i've never eaten there, but i've heard great things about it.

I have to add another vote for Shabu Zen.

If you're interested in making your own shabu-shabu the food market in Porter Exchange has beef that has been precut to shabu-shabu thinness. I'm sure there any many other places to get precut beef, but this is the closest to Davis that I know of.

Finally, the best fondue I have ever had in a restaurant was at Swissotel in Boston. However, I don't know what became of them when Boston Swissotel was bought out by Hyatt in 2003. Not sure if they still exist, or if the same chefs and menu exist under a new name, or if Hyatt gutted the whole thing.
