Useful things to do in summer

I am free after 4 on weekdays for the next month. I have been bored out of my mind lately with nothing to do in the evenings, but when school starts again I'll be swamped so I can't pick up anything long-term. Does anyone have suggestions for anything I could use that time for that would be useful locally and get me out of the house? I would be willing to volunteer once or twice a week, or maybe take a class (unfortunately, nothing I'm interested in is happening at the CCAE in the next month) or do something else low-cost and low-stress. I like the idea of meeting new people while doing active things. Thanks!

Interesting! I've never done anything theater-related since I figured out that I can't act, but it might be fun if I want to do something more social.

I've been a volunteer leader with Boston Cares for 3 years. They have a calendar full of projects with different organizations. It's really great because you can service different populations in need and volunteer with many great people. You do have to attend an orientation first (I think it is $10 for a student and an hour long) where you learn all about Boston Cares and how to sign up for projects.

Thank you for this! I just signed up for an orientation (it's actually $15 for students FYI). It looks like there aren't a whole lot of opportunities in Camberville right now, but hopefully some will come up!

I volunteer with the Friends of the Somerville Library - but know they have space for a book packer/organizer type person. The woman who assists with that is interesting in her own right but if you are a "bookie" (made up word) email friendssomervillepubliclibrary@gmail.com and I can send more info. Would be at Central branch - 79 Highland Ave. No set schedule - could pop in any day for an hour a week? - James

The Community Growing Center, on Vinal Ave just outside Union Square, always has a bunch of fun volunteer opportunities.
For instance, helping with Pajama Story Time on Tuesday evenings all this month, or scheduling a weekly time to water the garden, etc.
IF you take the volunteer orientation, you are rewarded with the access code for the padlock so you can visit the site 24/7.
