Porter Square Planet Fitness becomes "Rock'n Fitness." Drama ensues.

If you're a member of the Planet Fitness in Porter Square, or if you were considering joining, you might want to take a look at this:

The entity that owned the Porter Square/Government Center Planet Fitness franchise has left Planet Fitness and rebranded the two gyms to "Rock'n Fitness." They apparently did not notify customers of this until December 28 and are simply transferring the accounts to their own gym using a payment processor considered unsavory by some (ABC Financial). There is currently no website, social media presence, or any other information available about "Rock'n Fitness" outside of the uhub thread.

If you are a member of one of these two gyms, you will no longer be able to use other Planet Fitness locations as you are no longer a Planet Fitness member.

There are many complaints in the uhub comment thread, and someone who claims to be affiliated with "Rock'n Fitness" has been responding to many of them with insults (apparently they want to be the Amy's Baking Company of gyms).

I've thought about joining and am glad I read the comments... even if "RockNFitness" doesn't represent the new gym, the members' descriptions of how the whole thing went down was enlightening.

Yep, this whole thing is super shady. Also the FAQ sheet we received (I'm a member at the Porter location) was hilarious, almost illegible, and answered almost none of the questions I actually had. I might scan it and put it up on the reddit thread.

I'm a member at the Porter Square location. When I asked them about the rebranding, they made it sound all nice and spiffy. They didn't tell me anything else (and yes, the FAQ sheet was pretty hard to read). Should I be worried? I really don't want to have to switch gyms. I was just getting comfy back at this place...

A central change seems to be that you don't get access to other PF locations. That may or may not be valuable to you, but you're no longer getting that with when you pay your monthly fee.

Does anyone know if this company is refunding? Since they're not living up to my original contract I should be entitled to a refund, no? I paid upfront and with the intention of using Planet Fitness across the US when traveling...I'm super scared now.

If you are looking for a similar plan in the Porter Square area, I think WorkOutWorld, the gym that took over the Bally Fitness space in The Porter Exchange Building (1815 Mass Ave) offers a nearly identical 2-option plan. The only real difference being that the $20/monthly plan also includes access to a pool.

Ug. Worst experience.

I never use the Cambridge spot, but rather the hundreds throughout the country. Then they change to Rock N' FItness and I get all of 2 locations. Great. So I try to cancel...you can imagine how that has gone. I have no contract to actually tell me the procedures to cancel, where to send the letter how much notice, etc. So I try the steps in the old PF contract, no good. I try mailing to the physical location, sent back undeliverable. I give up and cancel my card. Now ABC Financial is sending debt notices. I have filed a complaint with Atty. Gen.s office and recommend others do the same. Next stop is BBB.
