Boston Fireworks Now July 3

We in Cambridge just got a robocall saying that Boston had moved its Esplanade fireworks and concert event to tomorrow, Thursday July 3, and that parking, etc., would be affected accordingly. More info to come here, I imagine.

Sharing this info here because I expect this will affect a lot of people's commutes and so forth!

That's going to be a big mess, although it does mean that you can quickly bike from the end of Somerville's fireworks to MIT in time for the beginning of Boston's show. Somerville's show is at 9:15, Boston's at 10:30.

I don't understand why they didn't instead postpone the Boston event to Saturday, when good weather is forecast.

Concern for what storm could do to barges full of explosives?

Point taken, though I think the original rain plan was to shoot the fireworks on July 5 if weather conditions on July 4 made the show impossible. I recall this actually being done one year.

I heard that the Pops is only contracted to perform on July 4 and a rehearsal the day before.

This is what the article said, yes--that the contracts could not all extend until Saturday.

During the press conference they did say that a Saturday fireworks show was a possibility, however the Pops show would have to be Thurs, Fri, or not at all because of their contract. So, they are hoping to squeeze it all in on Thursday.
