Oily

I know this question has been asked, and I'm so sorry to be repetitious, but I can't find the answer in the past 80 entries and this community has no memories :(

I'm looking to get an oil change for the first time since I've moved to Davis in a '99 Sub. Legacy. I have a $5 off coupon for the Valvoline place on Washington, but I'm wondering if you guys have recommendations for a cheap but reputable place...or even just a place that has consistently given you great service. Thanks for the help!

Hillside Auto Repair (http://www.hillsideauto.com/), the Texaco in Magoun Square (583 Broadway, corner of Cedar, across from Trum Field). They're very professional, friendly, and helpful.

I second the Hillside Auto Repair recommendation!

I swear by Munro on Washington in Union Sq. I've been going there for years and they've never pressured me to buy or do anything else when I go for an oil change, but they certainly check hoses and tires and brakes and everything. Fitz, the owner, will say: "I think you've got about 6 months left on your front tires." Or, "You should start to think about replacing this belt in the next 2500 miles or so." When he gets quotes he tells me if he thinks I can get a better price somewhere else.

Good deal.

This is twice in a weekend that your advice has been helpful. Thanks again! :)

I was happy with the Valvoline on Mass Ave between Porter and Alewife. I'm actually going there tonight, they're open til 7 on weekdays and it's first-come, first-served.

I should have also mentioned, if you are looking for excellent general mechanics, Good News Garage (near Central Sq) is run by one of the CarTalk guys, I always got straight talk and excellent service there (though you generally have to leave your car there all day, even just for an oil change).

I have no recommendation for a place, but I suggest staying away from the Jiffy Lube on Mystic Ave.
