Oat Shop Coming to Davis Square

In what sounds a bit like a hipster joke, a restaurant that specializes in oatmeal is scheduled to open this fall in an undisclosed Davis Sq. location.

I'm wondering where this will go, as I can't think of any truly empty storefronts that aren't spoken for already.

I saw that, and thought what's next, artisanal mac&cheese? Actually, I'm sure it's been done.

I'd rather have artisanal mac and cheese.

If I try to justify this, maybe it's a popup for breakfast in an existing restaurant?

Who on earth eats oatmeal when it's 80+ degrees out? Seems like a bad season to open a restaurant specializing in wintery breakfast.

Hey, if it's as good as either Johnny D's or the Neighborhood's, they'll get business :) Plus, there's always "overnight oats," which, if I understand correctly, can be served and eaten cold. I, uh, may spend way too much time on Pinterest.

Oatmeal is literally the last thing I would go to a restaurant to order. I would go out for grilled cheese before oatmeal.

Possibly the former Subway? Unless it's replacing an outgoing store we aren't aware of.

My horse will LOVE this!

If their oatmeal is as good as Johnny D's, i would totally go visit Oat Shop. Plus, variety is nice and I try not to stuff my fridge with ingredients that I can't use up fast enough.

(I hate overnight oats. I have eaten it cold and it's like eating glue. Pinterest lies!)

Or maybe the former Johnny D's, since Carla says she wants to rent it out while building above it?

That's a good guess, and the fall timeline would sync up with what she's said about starting renovation work ASAP. An oatmeal restaurant seems like the kind of thing that she'd be into.

Different strokes. I love overnight oatmeal, with greek yogurt and various different fruits depending on my mood and what's available.

I think I saw hipster mac n cheese restaurants in nyc 10 years ago.

I loved Johnny D's oats too.

Neighborhood's is cream of wheat, not oatmeal.

Yup; Smac. It's actually pretty good, too. I remain dubious about the oatmeal thing, though.

Also MacBar, which is near Rice To Riches, a rice pudding joint (and originally a money laundering front, but it survived that getting busted.)

But it was a wrong guess. The Oat Shop people had a pop-up at the Somerville Flea today, and they told me they will be moving into what is now American Bakers Cafe at 22 College Ave.

At their Somerville Flea pop-up today, they told me they are shooting for November.

Oh wow, thanks for checking that out! Good to know, hopefully they'll get some good traffic there.

I forgot to mention, they are also scheduled for another pop-up at next Sunday's Flea.
