SNOW EMERGENCY LIFTED AT 8:45AM TUESDAY

SOMERVILLE– The City of Somerville has lifted its snow emergency, as of 8:45 am Tuesday. Residents who parked in municipal lots during the snow emergency have a two-hour window starting at that time in which to move their vehicles. Cars still parked in municipal or school lots after Noon today are subject to ticketing and towing.

I am so glad I don't have to deal with that -- what do they expect people to do, come home from work in the middle of the day to move the car?

Seriously.

Yet another reason why I do not drive and do not own a car. If I wanted that sort of responsibility, I'd have children.

There was the one snow emergency where they lifted it at MIDNIGHT and expected people to have their cars moved by 2am. While I do understand the need to plow and keep the streets clean, I think that sort of thing is just ridiculous!

I never parked in the lots for that reason.

If you'd been reading this community, or the Somerville website, or the snow-alert listserv, you'd have received a notice yesterday at 6:45PM.

woops, hit "post" too soon...

meant to say that they're so courteous as to tell you about the ban beforehand, but then not give you any useful warning after.

Taxachusetts, people?

A few years ago, sure, but by all economic indicators, Massachusetts is no longer Taxachusetts.

This is something that should be changed. Are any of you friends with a city councilor? Maybe give up to 24 hours after the emergency is lifted? It is ridiculous to expect people to be able to move their schedule to fit this ridiculous timetable.
