Seeking OBGYN

Just moved to the area and need to find myself a new gynecologist within a month (my old doc won't prescribe me my birth control pills anymore since I don't live there), and would love them to be as close to Porter/Davis as possible. I'm inclined toward female doctors who are patient with people who hate going to the gynecologist, but would be happy with any firsthand recommendations. It's a pretty scary process to try and do through White Pages.

Thanks.

It's not near Davis Square (about 3 miles away), but the Mt. Auburn Hospital OB/GYN people are fabulous.

seconded.
mine isn't a female, which was weird for me at first, but that quickly vanished upon meeting him and him pretty much saving my life.

Yeah...I've always sought out female doctors, especially for OB/GYN, but my mom *still* has nothing but wonderful things to say about the male doctor who delivered me when I was a baby (and you'd think, given that she was in labor for 36 hours, she'd pretty much have shot him). So I guess it's one of those things that's fine if he has the right personality and the skills :).

but hey, my doctors are still female.

tooootally seconded. i see Elaine Landes, and i couldn't be happier with her. she's nice, answers all your questions, and won't write you off when you have a concern. also, she really looks out for her patients.

Elaine Landes is a nurse practitioner

There are also ob-gyns and midwives at Mt. Auburn Center for Women. I've seen several of them and been happy with all of them, especially Elaine Landes

Plan, a Planned Parenthood express center in Davis Square, will prescribe BC. They don't do pelvic exams there, but you can get most BC prescriptions with a clothes-on consultation.

Seconded on the Planned Parenthood Express if you need a pack to tide you over before you can get an exam or new doctor. They are friendly folks.

The ob/gyns over at WomanSpace (in the Wellspace building behind the Staples at Fresh Pond) are terrific.

I guess it depends on your health care situation, but I've had good experiences with the folks at Harvard Vanguard--I was seen by a Physician's Assistant who was very nice (if you see the PA's instead of GYN's, they're more apt to be able to fit you in right away).

Good luck!

Dr. Lenora Fischman @Somerville Family Practice on Broadway near Teele Square - hands down the best doctor I've ever been to (primary care + gyn under one roof). And the best part - if you make an appointment for say, 10 am, they actually SEE you at 10 am... I've never had to wait!

Another Vote for Somerville Family Practice, but

it's actually Dr. Leora (no N) Fishman (no C)

I'll point that you don't need an OB/GYN for pap smears & bcp; I've always just stuck with an internist, and have always had a fine experience with the doctors at Harvard Vanguard.
