scruffy boy haircuts...

I'm thinking about trying out Salon Cu, in Ball Sq. I was wondering if anyone had a specific stylist to recommend or just feedback in general. I usually go for a scruffy/choppy/messy look (aka "the generic hipster")

many thanks

It just opened like 3-5 weeks ago, right?

I got a "razor cut" from them a month or so ago and was very, very happy with the result. My sweetie got a haircut from them recently, too, and he is devastatingly handsome as a result. Two thumbs up.

I believe the stylist was named Summer. Is that right, Yaga?

good question! i really wanted to go somewhere more local than the South End..plus last time i went to get my haircut I asked for a cut that can go between super funky and professional (i was interviewing at the time) and she gave me a soccer mom hair cut :(

plus i don't trust Liquid to do hair color :)

i think i'll give them a whirl too...can't beat the location!

too funny! who did you go to?

SHUT UP! That's who i go to!!!!! hehehehe

I mean seriously I won't talk smack about her because she's given me some really masterful chic funky haircuts...she's absolutely great. But the last cut was SO disappointing...within about 10 days it grew out and started to look like a mullet. And I specifically said I didn't want ANY length in the back.

But again I just don't trust getting color done there so I need a 1 stop stylist :)

I love my old stylist but the new salon he opened is a little too stuffy for my taste :)

Liquid did some of the best color I've ever had on my hair!

well (and this honestly isn't meant snarky at all) i'm psyched for you because i've had 3 people i know have disasterous hair color experiences there...one actually had her scalp burnt...so liquid is a no for me on color :o)

i mean maybe it was a coincidence, but 3 people i know personally who had major issues is kind of a lot for me :o)

plus i'm still pretty pissed about the soccer mom cut :oP

I go to Umberto who co-owns the place
He does a great job!

Salon CU is named after cousins Carlo and Umberto. Carlo used to work at a Lexington salon, and Umberto used to work at Mario's. This is their joint venture. There are 1-2 other employees who cut hair. The Ball Square salon opened sometime in April.

I followed Umberto to the new place, and since go back and forth between the two cousins who are as friendly as can be, have both male and female clients, and know what it means to be hip.

So where exactly is it? I was driving home last night (from Davis up to Winter Hill) and I didn't see it. Any landmarks?

If you're facing the Ball Square block with El Guapo and Soundbites, CU Salon is all the way on the left on the corner.

Another big thumbs up for Summer. She gave me the exact cut I wanted by looking at a picture and then figuring out what would work for my hair and my head. Nothing but praise for her. Umberto used to cut my hair at Mario's, and he is similarly fantastic.

I go to Liquid as well!! I used to go to Brian, but he (SADLY!!!) moved to Maine. I go to Andrew now, whom I adore. He started at $25 and is now $35 fpr a cut. He totally redid my hairstyle with vague irestcions from me, and I have LOVED it since. He's also colored my hair -- much more expensive -- but I was VERY pleased with the results.

But, since you are looking for a local place, I'll offer my praise for Mario's as well. Just about everyone I know (boys and girls alike) who get haircuts around here go there, and they are all extremely satisfied. If you check it out, let us know how it goes!
