Can we get the the Davis Square Task force and others involved in Union Square and Inman areas as well? We have a huge need to have more residents and community minded people involved here! My home is here ,and I really wish the neighborhood were as involved in these issues. Do you know if anyone else from this area has expressed this?

Thanks so Much, this is great, I lived here three years and have not heard of them! I just emailed them and joined their newsletter too.

Someday going away?

Mr. Crepe coming to Someday Café site

Whoa, is Someday leaving? That's be a real tragedy. Don't get me wrong, my love for Mr. Crepe is deep and abiding, but Someday is one of the coffee corners, and it'd be a shame to see it go!

Yeah, in some ways I prefer it to Diesel. Quieter. Dimmer. More ice cream flavours.

Wow, really? Quieter? When I moved here seven years ago, I originally went to the Someday, but the volume of the music eventually made me change loyalties. I wonder if that's changed in the intervening years; or did you just mean "less conversational noise"?

Honestly, I'm not sure what it was, but it certainly seemed quieter overall last time I was there. Then again, I'm usually at Diesel on nights when it's very busy, and Diesel does tend to play their music loud when I'm there.

The Someday reliably has less conversation noise. The music volume is less predictable, but when it's turned lower the cafe as a whole is quieter than the Diesel.

I agree. I do miss Mr. Crepe and would go frequently if they return, but I don't really like idea that they might replace Someday, and I don't even really go to Someday but once or twice a year.
Kind of makes me want to go to the Task Force meeting.

Yeah, that would be awful. Someday is kind of a necessity to Davis Square culture for me, and I know a lot of others who feel that way.

I agree... the "Someday" is special. I refer to it as "Somerville's Public Living Room". However, I have often wondered about its commercial viability. It is often not that crowded when the other cafe's are maxed out. Also, I have noticed several times that people just hang out there without buying anything.

I think the owner, who also owns Tuscanini's (right, Ron?), has subsidized Someday for a long time.

[identity profile] chumbolly.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Someday can't go! Personally, I prefer diesel, mainly because diesel sells a small coffee for $1, but Someday is a true pioneer of the New Davis. I remember going in there when it first opened in, maybe '93'?, when they played music so loud no one could bear it. Odd for a coffee house to be so loud, but then Sligo was quiet as a wake back then, so go figure.

I remember Someday being smaller, but I couldn't remember quite how. One thing I wish they'd do is get rid of that filthy carpet --bare concrete would be fine and a big improvement. That carpet creeps me out.

Don't forget Redbones as an old-timey night spot--they've been hoovering my wallet for as long as I can remember.

That would be great if D/D went 24 hours. Not that I like Dunkin Donuts all that much...but it would be nice to see Somerville loosening up on business closing times.

Sorry, no to 24 anything -noise, loitering, taxis pulling up all night long and litter -lots of it...is there to be no peace?!!
