I need to rent a car from the 2nd to the 5th of july in/around somerville (just to sightsee in). Does anyone have an agency theyd recommend? Thanks.

And while Im at it, any really great sightseeing suggestions, or a good Mass beach?

Crane's Beach in Ipswich is pretty nice and worth the extra drive out there. There's a fee for parking though.

I think that you see more walking around than you do driving. That's just my 2c, though.

I know of people who had good experience with Enterprise Rent a car, which is right on Elm.

Depends on how far you want to go for a beach, but race point out on cape cod has just miles and miles of white sandy beach and public parking!

I have had good experiences with Enterprise, and they tend to be cheaper than most other places, IME.

For beaches...many of the ocean beaches are very pricey to park. Crane's is supposed to be nice, as is Wingaersheek (http://www.bostoncentral.com/activities/wingaersheek_beach/p668.php). For fresh water, Walden used to be nice, but last I heard is flooded, so no more beach. Sandy Beach in Winchester seemed nice, but we tried to go a week or so ago and it was contaminated. We had a blast at Houghton's Pond in Milton, but it's pretty...sedate. :)

The de Cordova in Lincoln is neat. And Habitat in Belmont has pretty nature.

It's hard for me to think of other ideas, though, since "car" really suggests "not in Boston" but "sightseeing" suggests "in Boston"...

I like to take company to Mt. Auburn Cemetery. I know it sounds a little bit odd, but it is absolutely beautiful. Not only is it American's First Garden Cemetery, but it is also a National Historic Landmark. There is also a tower that when climbed offers panoramic views of the city and surrounding area. If you go, be sure to stop in the visitor center to pick up a cemetery map that includes the location of graves/memorials of noted persons like Winslow Homer and Buckminster Fuller, and/or pick up a map of the all the "big trees" of Mt. Auburn.
