Assault Attempt in Davis Sq

Hey all. My neighbor notified us that he saw 2 men jump out from behind the wall at Kidder and College last night around 11pm and try to drag a woman (who was walking about 50 feet ahead of him from the T) down Kidder. He yelled and they ran off. When the police arrived, they said a similar incident had been reported the week before on Morrison. Has anyone heard of this or similar stories? Does anyone have a description of the alleged assailants?

ARG!!!! THIS PISSES ME OFF TO NO END.

Actually, we put up with too much of this crap. We put up with deadbeats in the Square and we tolerate people who trash the place. Let's stop being soft on this thuggery and send letters to the police and the mayor. We want our town cleaned up. We want these thugs away.
I saw some guy outside JP Licks today with "STOP SNITCHIN" tattooed on his arms. I thought this sort of thug was only to be found in Dorchester. This type of guy should be rounded up and escorted to the city limits. Second time 'round, put him in jail. Another deadbeat was calling people names. We either stay all PC like or we take a stand before someone really gets hurt.

So we get phone calls about fire works and parking, and don't hear about ATTEMPTED RAPES???

Your classism offends and disgusts me. I'd like you to be rounded up and escorted out of the square. Luckily for you, me, and the people with tattoos that offend you, in this country we don't generally arrest people BEFORE they've done anything wrong just because somebody didn't like the look or smell of them.

The assumption that the people of lower socioeconomic status who hang around the square are obviously the same sorts of people who would attempt to rape a woman walking down the street has no basis in reality. This has nothing at all to do with being PC and everything to do with objecting to bigotry.
Installing brighter streetlights around the area and increasing police patrolling would be a lot more effective at reducing this sort of crime than throwing out everybody who makes less money than you.

My idea of cleaning up Davis Square involves not only better protection from criminals, but also taking a firm stand against hatred.

You want to arrest someone for wearing a tattoo?

Ordinarily I would delete you for hijacking [livejournal.com profile] dawneliz's thread with your classist verbal diarrhea, but I'd rather see the membership have their say with you. If you further hijack this thread, I will delete your comments and consult with the other Mods about banning you.

Thank you for posting this information. I walk on all of those streets almost every evening. Please keep us posted if any more information surfaces.

Isn't s/he cute? As soon as I read the post I knew I could look forward to finding pretty much exactly that comment here. I'm just surprised they didn't get to be the first comment. That must have completely ruined their day.

No, I want someone who is visibly wearing gang and criminal minded tattoos and strutting their stuff to be asked to cover up or leave. I find it offensive that criminal wannabees are parading their wares in the Square.

[identity profile] cleanup-davissq.livejournal.com 2006-08-16 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
With respect, What gives you the right to call my opinion "verbal diarrhea"?
I apologise if you feel I hijacked the thread. It was not my intention. I'm fed up with feeling unsafe in the neighborhood. I should have the right to walk safely and not have to listen to loitering drunks in the square saying how cute I am and pestering me for cigarettes. Now this attempted rape issue???

[personal profile] ron_newman 2006-08-16 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Given that [livejournal.com profile] dawneliz said exactly nothing about how the suspects looked or were dressed, your comments are unwarranted.

My point was that our supreme tolerence will be our undoing. Look at Dorchester and Roxbury. Do we want criminals to take hold. Every person who leaves behind trash in the square and who steals a laptop from the Someday are showing others that we are willing to put up with petty crime. Trust me it is a slippery slope. You made the assumption about class, not me. Talking about arresting people before they commit a crime; isn't that what our Government is doing with terrorists? Sometimes pre-emptive methods are advantageous.

Creepy, that was part of my running route.

well, you started out in fine form, but you lost your focus towards the end there. “rounded up and escorted to the city limits”? i had been hoping at least for a stirring call for vigilante justice, but it was late, and perhaps you were feeling sleepy.

better luck next time!

Thanks for the info...I often walk down College by myself at night. Mayhaps I'll just take the loooong way home to avoid that and the man who insists on talking to me at Powderhouse.

ARG!!!! THIS PISSES ME OFF TO NO END.

How much time and energy are you willing to devote to do something about it?

If we were all willing to spend 20 minutes one evening a week walking in groups along area streets that would be a serious impediment to this sort of thing.

[identity profile] artic-monkeys.livejournal.com 2006-08-16 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I am surprised to hear about this from a far off witness instead of a one of these folks who were dragged off. What happened in the first case? same thing? Dragged a little and then escaped or was it more serious? How do we know it is rape, maybe they were going rob her?

[identity profile] artic-monkeys.livejournal.com 2006-08-16 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
good point. I make it point to walk around my block for that very reason. And if your the photographer sort, keep your digital cameras handy as well.

This reminds me, there was young girl missing from Somerville several months ago, I thought I saw posts here about here too. I think she was asian. Does anyone know what ever happened with that?

[identity profile] clevernonsense.livejournal.com 2006-08-16 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
that's a really good point that I think needs to be shared with ze mayor.

[identity profile] clevernonsense.livejournal.com 2006-08-16 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with you, but it pisses me off that these sort of precautions are necessary.

[personal profile] ron_newman 2006-08-16 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It was this post. No, I don't know what has happened since then.

[identity profile] dangerousface.livejournal.com 2006-08-16 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Great. That's how I walk home from the T.

[identity profile] sarah-raz.livejournal.com 2006-08-16 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm from Dorchester, and let me assure you: Dorchester does not want/need Somerville's 'thugs."

Also, if you are going to go around, calling other people "thugs," please at least use correct grammar.
