Hey all. My neighbor notified us that he saw 2 men jump out from behind the wall at Kidder and College last night around 11pm and try to drag a woman (who was walking about 50 feet ahead of him from the T) down Kidder. He yelled and they ran off. When the police arrived, they said a similar incident had been reported the week before on Morrison. Has anyone heard of this or similar stories? Does anyone have a description of the alleged assailants?

ARG!!!! THIS PISSES ME OFF TO NO END.

I am surprised to hear about this from a far off witness instead of a one of these folks who were dragged off. What happened in the first case? same thing? Dragged a little and then escaped or was it more serious? How do we know it is rape, maybe they were going rob her?

Well, it is just within the realm of possibility that somebody in Davis Square is not on Livejournal. ;-)

I mean if there is was a prior incident I have heard nothing about it anywhere, not just LJ which leads me to question teh rape assumption, I am guessing the prior incident was minor otherwise it should have at least been in the papers or perhaps neighbors would have posted something somewhere which is exactly what happened in this case. Sometimes the police like to keep things quiet for investigative purposes but I am not sure I would not want to know what was going on.

*continues thinking out-loud* but even if these things are minor don't they still warrant caution? I mean all those cops shows with the police who come up with profiles always say that the criminals start off small and feel comfortable then progressively get more serious with their crimes?

True. I've had a google to see if I could find anything like a police blotter online, but no luck. It would be useful.

Yes, well, then let's start talking in "allegeds," while we are at it. OK - I will grant you we really don't know what the motives were. For all I know, the guys might have thought they were pulling the women out of the path of a speeding bus. (Except there is no bus line on Morrison.)

How about this: Ask the women who were grabbed. Did they fear for their wallets, or something else? Is their fear of a different flavor than the fears of most men who are grabbed? (And yes, I am aware that men get raped too.)

When it is a guy who gets jumped for his wallet, then we can look a bit more broadly. But when two for two victims are female, the men of Somerville and the women of Somerville might just have different contexts for needing timely access to this information.

Lets not start talking "allegeds". I would rather stick with facts. And don't get me wrong, I am not trying to make light of it by no means.

Without qualifying why the word rape was used I can only assume that there was either more information not mentioned or that rape was just assumed by the OP or police. I am looking for more details. Without any details to assume rape it may be just as easy to assume that the criminals are just teenagers looking for easy robbery targets. And women generally make easier weaker targets.

I see what you meant now that actually read it. Yes the reverse 911 system should send out the message whether it was a rape or robbery.
