I'm interested in starting to do some track running. I checked the website for Tufts and couldn't really tell if their outdoor track facility was open to the general public or not. Does anyone know off hand? Or have a suggestion of where to go? I live right in the middle of Ball Square, and obviously since I'm starting an exercise routine, I'm willing to go where ever I need to go.

Also, has anyone been using the public pool at Kennedy? My aunt had told me about it a few months ago, but I never had the opportunity to check it out myself.

Yup. It's open to the public, just not when there's an event going on. There's usually a bunch of folks running/walking there at night.

The Kennedy pool is pretty good. I've used it once, but I much prefer the MIT pools. What do you want to know about Kennedy?

Something I really didn't like was that they had tried to cram us all into 2 lanes so that private swim lessons could each have their own lanes... argh!

MIT pools are open to anyone who has one of their athletic memberships, which anyone can purchase. I believe it's about $800 but you have access to all of their clubs and facilities at that point.

They do also have $7 day passes. But yeah it's expensive, although it does have more stuff than gyms that charge that much. I haven't been able to justify that kind of cost to myself, though.

Link to their membership rates page (http://web.mit.edu/zcenter/gen_info/cs_membership.html)

Monthly passes are $75 for the general public, which compares very favorably with the fancy health clubs like Healthworks and Wellbridge.

MIT has day passes for $12 (pricey!) but you can also get a membership as a non-student/non-alum (also pricey! but less than 12 bucks a pop).

To be fair about Kennedy, we did go during the discount hours, so maybe that's why we had to pay less.
