Good Towing/Mechanic near Davis Square?

Hiya.

While trying to move her car tonight for sweeping tomorrow, my partner realized that her E-brake on her Hyundai has seized up, and the car is no longer moving when put into gear, etc. Since trying to rev it up out and, or shoving on it isn't working, she's going to need a tow to a mechanic, so they can do their voodoo on it.

So can anyone recommend a good/cheap/not evil mechanic, and a good towing place? (Or better yet, a mechanic that will tow her car into the shop? Closer to Highland/Willow Streets the better, but price is what truly counts. (Followed closely by non-skeeviness.)
Thanks!

My favourite local shop is Arco Tire & Service @ 18 Clarendon Ave in Teele Sq.. Gary & Carlos have always been very good to me and my trucks. I wouldn't say they're "cheap", but they do charge a reasonable rate for the excellent work that they do, and are totally straight-up & won't do unnecessary things. Their # is 617-623-9400.

I recently had a good experience with AD Towing in Malden when my Jeep's clutch bit the dust on Sunday. I'm not sure what their fees are like, since it was a AAA deal, but the company is small & the owner is competent and friendly. Their # is 781-322-3945.

If you can make it to Medford, I had been going to the guy next to Pizza Days, Nick's Pizza, Campus Convenience, Dunks, etc over by Boston and Winthrop. He does good work.

For a completely non-seekvy mechanic and in general a great place that will give you a good deal check out Streetwise in Somerville.

Yes! I am a big fan of Streetwise. they're at 617-625-8000, located one side street back from Somerville Ave between Union and Porter.

I third the Streetwise recommendation.

Hillside Auto Repair is wonderful. They are just over the tracks on Broadway if you go a few blocks east of Willow. They are reliable, explain everything, and at least a couple hundred bucks cheaper than the dealer.

I Heart Hillside

I second Hillside auto. I moved to Watertown but still bring my car there. Jack and company are great guys and they are quick, honest, and funny.

Hello,

It was my car that prompted the post. I would like to thank you for the info provided. It was very VERY helpful.

As for the car.... I hit the back tires with a hammer. It made me feel better and umjammed the parking brake. Nice side effect :) The back passenger wheel was catching a bit , so I took it to Streetwise to get looked at.It was closer to where I was parked. If you saw a crazy person on Willow hitting her car with a hammer--- yes that was me.:)~
