Diesel Closed this week?

Anyone know what the renovations are that are closing Diesel this week?

A friend told me they are putting boths in the front section where tables and chairs are now.

Customer loyalty

They do! If I went out of my way to buy ten drinks from them to get one free then it's good business for them and an incentive to choose them and not Starbuck's. There is a lot of competition out there in the coffeehouse world and if their former punchcard system was buy ten get one free then it should stay the same. Why does charity have take away from someone's customer loyalty reward?

Also, why should the customer be obligated to donate money to a specific charity when they may already give to other charities of their choice. If anything, that's going to put them off the punchcard system all together, buy fewer drinks and reduce Diesel's revenue.

Why can't they have one of those banks with Jerry's Kids on it and let people have the option of donating money if they choose? Why does it have to be incorporated in the customer loyalty punchcard?

No one requires you to punch your card. And they aren't using the punch system to get more business, they have plenty.

I see the point you are making but I don't think there is anything wrong with their system. Thats what they chose to do. Just because starbuck and dunkin donuts gives you one free after you purchase 10 doesn't mean others need or have to do it.

Really? Damn but S & DD owe me a lot of free drinks!! (Don't jump on me, anyone, I only go there in other locales, when there's not another indie coffee shop around.) ... I might be missing something but I'm pretty sure S & DD don't have any programs like that. Though S is generally good to me when it comes to "apology free drink" coupons when somebody messes up my order.

This complaint about the loyalty cards is kind of beyond me. If it's not worth the hassle to you, don't do it. And if all the people were only going to Diesel instead of some other place because they wanted that tenth free drink, stopped going and went to some other coffee shop instead... I kinda think Diesel would still be okay.

Whether or not the charity card system is dumb, I don't see why anybody feels like they're entitled to free drinks from any place and are being cheated by the fact that it went away! If the free drink system was losing them money and they don't need it to attract sufficient business, of course they're going to drop it. Instituting the charity thing instead seems like a nice idea, trying to show that they're still committed to the local community even if they feel they can't afford to keep up the customer loyalty policy. (however ill-thought out the program is, or whatever -- it doesn't bother me but I can see the point of the person below who said they should just donate to charity and not bother with the cards.)

I never go to starbucks and I rarely go to dunkins (and not for coffee since I don't drink coffee) ... the comment was suppose to be read as either:

If ____(fill in the blank with store such as) starbucks and dunkin want to give you the tenth free ...

or

If places such as starbucks and dunkin want to give you the tenth free.

It wasn't meant literally. I have no idea what either of those places do.

They owe you fulfillment of any old loyalty card that was issued under the old system, but I believe they gave everyone several months' notice before they stopped fulfilling them.

If they stopped issuing new loyalty cards tomorrow, that would be perfectly within their rights. I don't see how they have any obligation to forever keep a system that was starting to lose them money. Nor are they obligating customers to donate money. It's their money.

Not according to them. I had my old card and they said it was only good for the dollar off. I agree that it's a dumb program and not worth the trouble of printing the cards. They should just hang a sign saying they'll donate X amount for every ten drinks they sell and leave it at that.
