When Pigs Fly, the new bread store next to Kickass Cupcakes, opens this Saturday. Hours will be 10 am to 6 pm 7:30 pm daily.

Aww. I was getting all excited until I read the comments.

Oh well. I'll try to get in there once in a while, at least, to encourage the general concept of a small local bakery. But meanwhile, my recently-acquired bread machine is going to see a lot of action.

Pigs Fly has extended hours 10-7:30 daily, and their prices range from $3 for a decent baguette to $5-6 for all the others. All fresh daily, and incredible flavor. I've tried many of the fruit breads (like cranberry orange pistachio and blueberry peach) and the 6-grain/pumpkin seed, which I used to always get at the grocery store as my standard. The freshness from the Davis Sq store really stands out. They have one 100% whole wheat that I left on my counter in a ziploc bag and was really surpirsed at how well it held up 6 days later and counting...dense, hint of molasses, incredible toasted with a light lick of butter and honey. And you can sample any of them at the store.
