Heavy Police Activity Around Simpson & Broadway

I noticed very heavy police activity on and around Simpson ave around 7:00PM tonight. Several unmarked cruisers, marked patrol cars, state police vehicles, and police on foot. They seemed to be around for at least an hour or so and were very clearly looking for someone.

Just a few minutes ago (10:00ish), my wife and I heard two gunshots which sounded as if they had come from the Broadway area. The police said they had gotten reports of shots from Wallace street and sure enough there seem to be multiple cruisers around the area again.

Anyone in the area get the lowdown from the cops this evening? I'm not usually this nosy, but I wish that I had asked. Nothing on the local news sites.

Woah. Shots on Wallace? I definitely would like more information about that.

Those were gunshots? They sounded more.. boomy to me. Like a firework. I've always wondered if I could tell the difference.

I definitely heard 2 loud bangs on Ossipee, but it sounded like fireworks or a big shot gun.

I just now heard another such sound.

My wife and I also heard two loud bangs a couple minutes apart around 10pm, (although I didn't look at the clock right then) and I remember saying "whoa" out loud and wondering whether those were gunshots. I am curious what this is all about.

I heard 2 "boom" sounds in the area of just north of Medford Square. Don't know about the first, but the second was definitely fireworks (kinda pretty ones too). These were around 10 pm. While I doubt they were the same booms you heard, I do live on a hill, and sound can travel unexpectantly far. And since I definitely saw amateur fireworks, it's likely a group of friends went north, bought fireworks, and all set them off at the same time, thinking it was "cool" or something.

Dunno what was up, but my wife and I were walking up Simpson around 7 and were asked if we saw a white male in a TShirt and cargo shorts running around. I'd love to know what was up!

I live in Teele Sq and I heard a few booms around 10pm and I muted the TV to listen harder but heard nothing but an airplane flying overhead. I assumed I heard the plane and that was it. I would be curious to know if this was fireworks or shots!

Was at a party on Simpson, and about 30 seconds after someone left around 7:30pm, they called to say the street was crawling with cops. Sure enough, I look out the window, and there is a cop in the driveway. We locked the doors, as everyone was already inside. The host talked to the cop, who said they were looking for a white man in a white t-shirt.

Later, I talked to the upstairs neighbor, who looked like he had been giving the cops some info. He said he was walking the dog and saw someone running down Simpson (away from Broadway), and duck down Cady, and about 30 seconds later run out of Cady, down Simpson a bit, and into someone's driveway.
After that, the neighbor sat on his 2nd floor front porch, and watched the parade of police - vans, unmarked cars (and often the cars were going the wrong way down the street), K-9, and every time they passed they'd ask him if they saw the guy again. Eventually, one cop said there had been a routine traffic stop that turned into an un-routine stop when the guy bolted from his car on a skateboard. I guess the guy also had a black sweatshirt along with a white tank-top.

And that is what I heard. You now have expert 3rd-hand knowledge!

I also heard the two pops around 10pm. Being very smart, I went straight to the window to see what was going on, but didn't see anything. I'm thinking if it was heard in the Broadway area, Simpson Ave, AND Day St, it would have been something other than a gun, right?

and firecrackerish sounds again tonight, 6/15, 9:15p. Several bangs in fast succession - sounds like too fast for a gun you'd find around here.

Around 8:25pm:

I saw an unmarked police car parked the wrong way on Holland across the street from the park next to Paulina, which what appeared to be (maybe?) a detective-like person trying to extract information from a group of 4 people. The only line I heard one of them say was "even if i knew, i wouldn't tell you!". :/

Fireworks on Winslow on Sunday night

[identity profile] veronique4.livejournal.com 2009-06-16 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
We had a very loud firecracker go off on Winslow. Several people called the police and when the cop arrived, he said the department has been getting lots of calls recently about these firecrackers and that it's probably just high school "kids."
