I noticed very heavy police activity on and around Simpson ave around 7:00PM tonight. Several unmarked cruisers, marked patrol cars, state police vehicles, and police on foot. They seemed to be around for at least an hour or so and were very clearly looking for someone.
Just a few minutes ago (10:00ish), my wife and I heard two gunshots which sounded as if they had come from the Broadway area. The police said they had gotten reports of shots from Wallace street and sure enough there seem to be multiple cruisers around the area again.
Anyone in the area get the lowdown from the cops this evening? I'm not usually this nosy, but I wish that I had asked. Nothing on the local news sites.

Date: 2009-06-15 02:37 am (UTC)Given the earlier activity and the fact that it's not exactly the 4th of July I decided to play it safe and let the cops sort it out. I told the dispatcher that I had heard two loud booms that may have been shots and she said they already had reports of gunshots from someone on Wallace street (not necessarily that the shots were on that street).

Date: 2009-06-15 06:31 pm (UTC)Later, I talked to the upstairs neighbor, who looked like he had been giving the cops some info. He said he was walking the dog and saw someone running down Simpson (away from Broadway), and duck down Cady, and about 30 seconds later run out of Cady, down Simpson a bit, and into someone's driveway.
After that, the neighbor sat on his 2nd floor front porch, and watched the parade of police - vans, unmarked cars (and often the cars were going the wrong way down the street), K-9, and every time they passed they'd ask him if they saw the guy again. Eventually, one cop said there had been a routine traffic stop that turned into an un-routine stop when the guy bolted from his car on a skateboard. I guess the guy also had a black sweatshirt along with a white tank-top.
And that is what I heard. You now have expert 3rd-hand knowledge!
I also heard the two pops around 10pm. Being very smart, I went straight to the window to see what was going on, but didn't see anything. I'm thinking if it was heard in the Broadway area, Simpson Ave, AND Day St, it would have been something other than a gun, right?

Date: 2009-06-16 03:10 am (UTC)I saw an unmarked police car parked the wrong way on Holland across the street from the park next to Paulina, which what appeared to be (maybe?) a detective-like person trying to extract information from a group of 4 people. The only line I heard one of them say was "even if i knew, i wouldn't tell you!". :/
