That time of year - Brown School card!

The Brown School discount card - which costs $10, lasts from Sept.1 to Aug. 31, and gets you lots of great Davis Sq. discounts - is now available at Mr. Crepe, in case you didn't pick one up at ArtBeat. If you go to Mr. Crepe, RedBones or Blue Shirt Cafe (among many others) more than a couple of times a year, this is totally worth it.

No affiliation, just an extremely satisfied card user. There's a previous discussion of how awesome it is here.

I'm curious as to why you don't like Mr. Crepe. I've only been there once and the person I bought a water from was a huge jerk about me buying bottled water, so I know why I'm not a fan of that place...wasn't sure if it was an isolated incident.

Mr. Crepe's servers have always been friendly to me. They don't even ask to see my Brown School card anymore, most of the time.

I've been reading yelp reviews because I was curious to see if anyone had a similar experience. The biggest complaint is some really bad customer service (several negative reviews for this very problem) but a lot of reviews admit that there are some genuinely nice staff members.

Everyone can have a bad day. Hopefully the day I went there was just an off day for the staff member I dealt with and the grumpy kids eventually get phased out or quit because they're unhappy.

On the upside, the girl I bought my card from today was very nice and helpful!

bottled water is a scam.

Oh, I totally agree that bottled water is stupid. I had just moved, couldn't find my water bottle, was late to the movie I was going to see partly because I couldn't find my water bottle, was extremely thirsty and was horrified to see that the somerville theater was charging $2.50 (i think) for something I agreed was dumb. And yes, I noticed they had small cups of water for free, but it was super hot all day and I wanted to be able to sip water during the movie.

I didn't have time to make it to the CVS, and Mr. Crepe was a dollar cheaper. However, I was still late to the movie because the clerk at the counter was a complete jerk about selling me something that it was his job to sell. Even after I told him that I agreed with him, but that I was late for the movie and explained all the factors that had led me to having to purchase water from him, he continued to talk down to me and tried to change my mind. It was incredibly stupid.

I just don't like that they played dirty pool to squeeze out the previous inhabitant of that space, Someday Cafe. Someday was kind of to the wage-earners what Diesel is to the college students and Starbucks to the professionals, and I miss it a lot. It was the kind of place where you could actually hang out & talk, or even have a game of cards, without getting filthy looks or outright evicted for not spending X-money-per-time, and they had all kinds of tasty teas. Cool art exhibits all the time, too.
