It's the little things....

So Diesel no longer toasts bagels anymore :( and I'm just not crazy about untoasted bagels for some reason. Is there another place in the square (besides Dunkin Donuts) to get a bagel fix first thing in the morning?

The Diesel lost my patronage years ago when they took chocolate egg-creams off the menu, and started giving me all sorts of attitude about the inconvenience of making them, when I ordered one anyway. This just seems to be another instance of them putting their own priorities ahead of their customers'.

Now I go across the street instead. Please don't hurt me!

seconded. Though, oddly, I love Bloc 11 - super cool staff and the food and drink are way better. I don't get that at all.

also, if you are making the trek to brookline, Kupels is the best bagel in the area. Bagels by US isn't a bad second (over in Arlington). I personally don't like toasted bagels but diesel really isn't hip enough for those excuses not too. In fact I wonder if it was just a lame server?

Huh. Whenever I've ordered an egg cream anyway, whoever ends up making it for me usually is intrigued by the challenge and totally nice about it.

I got that response from the staf themselves for awhile, but eventually one of the owners came out to scold me for ordering them.

What place across the street makes egg creams?

Egg creams are easy

Inconvenient?!

If you want to make your own egg creams, get a bottle of U-Bet chocolate syrup (and some milk) from Dave's Fresh Pasta, and a Sodastream seltzer maker from Tag's in Porter Square (when I was there, they had it for less than Amazon!)

Egg creams are dead easy to make. The recipe on the U-Bet bottle is a half-inch of syrup, 3/4" of milk, then fill the rest of the glass with seltzer and stir.
