Now that's service!

Mad props to the Somerville streets department. I live over on School Street and emailed them about a pothole that opened up that was threatening to swallow my car whole. 3 days later, I come home from work and found the hole filled in and patched up.

Fusion "Express"

So, is it just me, or have other people had this experience?

I call in an order for take-out; I am told it will be ready in 15 (or 20, or 25) minutes. So, 15, or 20, or whatever minutes later, but never earlier than they say, I show up. They ask what I'm there for, and I repeat my order. Then I wait for another 10 to 30 (!!) minutes while they put the whole thing together. And it's not like they are crazy-busy on these occasions, either - at most (the additional 30 minute wait) they've had 3 tables of customers there. It's like they either deliberately ignore the call-in orders until I show up, or they forget them or something. I don't get it. And I don't have this experience with other places I call for take-out.

This happens at least 9 times out of 10. But when my SO places the order, it is ready on time.

always room for improvement? Davis Sq pet peeves

The last post (yay for filled-in potholes!) made me think about other things that can use a little fixing up.

What are your pet peeves about Davis Square? Is it the inaccessible chaos that is Anna's seating area? The illogical milk & sugar arrangement in the coffee department of Store 24? The subway guitarist who doesn't quite know the tune to Rainbow Connection?

Post away! The first step in solving a problem is to name it.

(no subject)

Five volunteers needed to assist the Kitsune Dance Theatre performance
at the Somerville Arts Beat Festival in Davis Square on Friday, July 15th.

Assistance needed in the following areas: musicians (tech), roping off
an area of the park, props and installations, and with performers. During the show,
volunteers will be asked to hand out programs and also watch out for performers safety as they
will be roaming and moving within a crowd of people at all times.

Volunteers would need to make the dress rehearsal on Thursday the 14th
(6-9pm) in Davis square to see the space and meet the cast.
Call time is 4:30pm for set up on the 15th for the show. Show runs from
6:30-8:30pm.

Half hour after show will be spent on breakdown and clean up. Your
help will be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

If interested, please contact Alice Cox at 617-962-6389.

Voice of an Angel

I noticed some dissing in a post about some of our hardworking Davis subway musicians, and I thought I would throw a little love towards my favorite.

Any weekday morning that I go to the Davis T, there is a man there playing guitar and singing in what I think is either Portuguese or French. It is truly lovely. Does anyone know the person of whom I speak? Any info on him?

I am always touched by his performances because he truly seems like the happiest subway performer ever. It definitely helps set the tone for my day.
