Only a few of these exist so far, in Chicago, Austin, San Francisco, and Las Vegas.

Eater.com reports: Pokéworks opens its doors to the raw fish salad-loving public on Thursday at 5 p.m. in Somerville, with a menu full of customizable bowls and burritos made with sushi fixings.

Pokéworks is located at 261 Elm Street. It will be the fifth location of a growing national chain.

A friend just showed me this Boston Eater article about a small poke chain, Pokeworks, coming to Davis Square. The writer says,"Pokeworks, a small poke chain with locations open or coming soon in California, New York, and Seattle, is expanding to Somerville's Davis Square." Looks like it's going next to the old Yumi Hot Pot location.

730 pm on Saturday...
... And I thought they looked closed a few days ago around 8 pm.

I don't think they're ok...

Yesterday around 2:00pm, I walked by Chipotle and saw that it looked like all the alarms and sprinkers had been going off. The place was soaked -- the inside was leaking water into the street through the cracks of the doors and all. I had wanted a burrito, but I had to settle for Amsterdam instead.

Did anyone happened to see/hear what happened?

I live a block from this eatery and thus have kept a very close (and hungry) eye on it ever since M3 left. So I am happy to report that, after months of anticipation, Tenoch opened for business on Thursday and that it has been overflowing with customers the past two nights. Check it out if you're around Davis Square this holiday; the address is 382 Highland Ave (corner of Cutter and Highland).

They'll be giving away free chips & salsa, horchata, and Jamaica beverages, as well as selling two tacos for the price of one.

I attended tonight's licensing board hearing; most of the proceedings were special alcohol permits for various parties and functions, but a few bits of local interest:
• The former Kindred will become a coffeeshop called Nine Bar Espresso. They were approved for their Recorded Entertainment permit (so they can play music from an iPod)
• Taco Party in Ball Square (the former Zing Wingz space) was approved as well.
• Tenoch's entertainment permit as well as their beer & wine licenses were approved. Both of their elderly next-door neighbors voiced their concerns about noise and rowdiness, but a representative of the Mayor's office was there to voice the city's support and to note that the community meeting last week had gone very well. The Board approved them with one member abstaining grumpily.

The City of Somerville, in their ongoing quest to turn Davis Square into a cluster of abandoned, crumbling buildings, is holding up the opening of Tenoch Mexican, acording to Tenoch's website:
UPDATE: At the June 15, 2015 Somerville City Council meeting, Tenoch was not approved to open our new location at 382 Highland Ave in Davis Square. Come show your support for Tenoch at an informational meeting on Monday, July 13 from 6:30-7:30 at the future Tenoch location at 382 Highland Ave., or at the next Somerville hearing on Monday, July 20 at 6 pm at Town Hall, when we are on the docket again. Help us get our new place up and running and satisfy your torta craving in Davis Square!

I'm excited to report that on my way to work this morning I noticed new signage installed in the former M3 location for Tenoch Mexican.

They were going to move into the former Kickass Cupcakes location but apparently just recently decided to take the larger M3 space on the other end of the building:

Here's hoping for a quick and smooth construction process.

I just stumbled on this, which is a few weeks old, but I haven't seen it posted.

Tenoch, which has locations in Medford Square and in the North End, is moving into Kickass Cupcakes' old storefront in October. This would be the Kickass Cupcakes storefront closer to Davis on the corner of Highland and Cutter, near When Pigs Fly and where M3 used to be.

I like this.  Tenoch is awesome.  I think it's better than Anna's and Chipotle and it also has a somewhat different focus -- a more adventurous menu of tortas and tacos.  They have burritos as well, but they aren't the centerpiece.

That block is a little tricky given how far down Highland from Davis it is and the implications that has for foot traffic.  The stretch of Highland from Davis to Grove is pretty lifeless outside of Five Horses and then there's Kenney Park and Rite Aid.  A great number of people who walk home from the T in that direction do so via the Community Path.  It's a little out of sight, out of mind, so fingers crossed that they do well.

Not as much fanfare as when they closed the Davis Sq. location, but it looks like Boloco has closed their Medford location. Not having much luck with burritos in this neck of the woods, I suppose.

The Painted Burro is now open in the space formerly occupied by Gargoyles. When I walked by, they told me that they had opened yesterday.

In other paint news, I saw a bunch of folks painting walls in the former Namaskar restaurant today. Why, I don't know. Most of the fixtures are still there, so I hope this means another restaurant will arrive soon.

Boloco is giving away free burritos next Tuesday from 11 am to 8 pm at their Tufts location, 340 Boston Ave. in Medford Hillside. (Yes, it's still open.)

They're having one free burrito day at each of their locations from now until early April. Harvard Square will be Wednesday, March 14 from 11 am to 8 pm. Here's the rest of the list, and their full announcement.

Groupon is offering $20 of Boloco food for $10, provided that you spend it at the Tufts (Medford Hillside) Boloco by November 30, when that store is scheduled to close.

Whatever balance you don't spend on your first visit goes on your Boloco card -- which probably means that the balance won't expire on 11/30 and that you can spend it at other Boloco locations. (But I'm not 100% sure of this.) ETA: Confirmed by Boloco; see their Groupon comments

The Groupon deal ends Tuesday night, November 1.

I got the official email today:

All Good Things Must End

It's with heavy hearts that we must say:

Gargoyles on the Square will be closing its doors after business hours on Tuesday, September 20th, 2011, as it is time for the Conforti family to move on.

We have had a terrific run thanks to wonderful, dedicated staff members and all our loyal customers over the years.
You are all considered a part of the "Gargoyles Family" and we will miss you all.

Thanks for the memories!
James, Pat and John

Gargoyles was one of my favorite restaurants, with the crazy food and the fun waitstaff. I'll really miss them.

from Medford Green Line Neighborhood Alliance blog:
Medford Boloco to close; owner cites GLX delay as factor
The Boloco restaurant at 340 Boston Ave. will close on Nov. 30, Boloco CEO John Pepper told the Medford Green Line Neighborhood Alliance in an email Sunday night.

Responding to an email reminder about a public meeting this week about the latest Green Line delay, Pepper said the fact that the project is languishing was a factor in his decision to close the Medford location.

Does anyone know what's going on with Rudy's in Teele Square? Went by tonight and it was closed (unusually).
[identity profile] josephineave.livejournal.com
This is a bit of an experiment, but we will see where this takes us.

I have won a dinner for 4 at Boloco Harvard Square. I am cashing it out on late Sunday afternoon and have spots for 2 folks to join us. I am throwing this out to the DSLJ community to see if anyone is up for a free dinner this weekend (it's a crime to waste free burritos).

The first two commenters to reply to this posting are in (sorry, no +1). Provide me an email address to connect and we'll exchange numbers so I can track you down if you are late. I encourage more than 2 to sign up, in case we need an alternate.
