[identity profile] jdh0625.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] davis_square
I just stumbled on this, which is a few weeks old, but I haven't seen it posted.

Tenoch, which has locations in Medford Square and in the North End, is moving into Kickass Cupcakes' old storefront in October. This would be the Kickass Cupcakes storefront closer to Davis on the corner of Highland and Cutter, near When Pigs Fly and where M3 used to be.

I like this.  Tenoch is awesome.  I think it's better than Anna's and Chipotle and it also has a somewhat different focus -- a more adventurous menu of tortas and tacos.  They have burritos as well, but they aren't the centerpiece.

That block is a little tricky given how far down Highland from Davis it is and the implications that has for foot traffic.  The stretch of Highland from Davis to Grove is pretty lifeless outside of Five Horses and then there's Kenney Park and Rite Aid.  A great number of people who walk home from the T in that direction do so via the Community Path.  It's a little out of sight, out of mind, so fingers crossed that they do well.

This is awesome. I've never been to one but the reviews for their two existing locations are very positive. This place is two blocks down Highland from me, and I will do my part to keep it in business.

Thanks for posting this here, if someone else mentioned it, I completely missed it.

I work near the Medford location, so it would be great to have one near home as well!

Anyone who, like me, felt let down by the lack of a decent taqueria in the Boston area when they moved from the west coast needs to try this place out. It's the closest to what I left behind in CA than any of the other places I've tried here, chain or otherwise.

Excellent. Burritos make a comeback! fighting to regain their hegemony over Davis Square, recently lost to froyo!

Who will win dominance? It's round 2 of the Burrito vs Froyo battle!

That's what made cupcakes different at least. Neither froyo nor burritos.

Very cool. During the brief 'food truck fest' in the square, the guys at the truck told me they were eyeing that strip and hoping something opened up so that they could be near to Davis Square without being right next to Chipotle/Annas/Burro. Their tortas were great, and he said "we want to bring real Mexican street food to the area, stuff like tepache, tejuno and tamales."

THIS!

Yes, they make burritos, but they also make actual food that people from Mexico actually eat. Which are not burritos, for the most part.

Nevertheless, I felt compelled to add the 'burritos' tag to this post ;-)

Seriously. I don't think you can even buy a burrito at their food truck.

That strip has had a ton of turnover, I hope it works out for them.
