Somerville History Bike Tour - Sunday 5/23 - Lost Theatres of Somerville

The 9th annual Somerville History Bike Tour will take place on Sunday, May 23rd. We'll meet at Somerville City Hall at 1 pm, leaving promptly at 1:15 and riding for about 8 miles.

This year's theme is "Lost Theatres of Somerville". We'll visit the locations of Somerville's former movie theatres, many of which are still standing and converted to other uses. Our tour will be based on David Guss's recent Somerville Museum exhibit and website of the same name.

The ride is jointly sponsored by the Somerville Bicycle Committee and the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission. We are requesting a $3 donation to support the Historic Preservation Commission's activities.

In the event of steady rain, we'll postpone the ride to Sunday, June 13.

A tentative map of the route we'll take is at http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/409495 , with a cue sheet at http://www.bikely.com/cuesheet/route/409495 .

Information about the lost theaters of Somerville can be found on David Guss's website http://www.losttheatres.org/theaters.htm and at http://somervillemuseum.org/lost.htm . CinemaTreasures.com also has pages describing many of the theatres.

The Aquapolypse has (almost) ended

Unless you're a DSLJer reader from Saugus or you work in Saugus, it is again safe to drink the water and folks from Cambridge can stop referring to Somerville as Tijuana Norte, 'k gracias.

Water ban lifted

Be sure to run your cold water for a few minute and your hot water for about half an hour before drinking anything.

RCN is pissing me off.

http://www.rcn.com/boston/digital-cable-tv/digital-extras/high-definition-expanded
says
"Free HD. We mean it.
Find out how easy it is to get free high-definition channels"
and then, when you click through to
http://www.rcn.com/boston/digital-cable-tv/equipment
you find out how easy it is: )
So, now I'm wondering:
A) do I call the Somerville PUC?
B) what specials are Comcrap offering now?
Hell...
C) what specials are RCN offering now?
