Zoe's and Mixtura are open again!

Yes, yes, not technically Davis but I'm almost certain it was mentioned here before, so for those mourning their absence, Zoe's and Mixtura (which to my dismay I'd thought was perma-closed) are open again*! Since Zoe's seems to get all the love, allow me a brief plug for Mixtura: Super tasty latin fusion breakfast (plus other meals, but I'm usually there for breakfast) with free wifi, right across from Petsi's Pies. I really recommend checking them out. Nomz.

* cue people pointing out however many days they've been open, but it's the first I've heard anyone say anything about it

[EDIT: it's come to my attention that while Zoe's is "open" in the sense that I saw people there on my way in to Mixtura, they may not be open for business again yet. I'll check and update later ]

[EDIT 2: yup, I jumped the gun on Zoe's. Sorry 'bout that. But Mixtura is open and I'm sure the closure didn't do them any favors, so I'm still happy to signal boost them. ]

Genderqueer "Importance of Being Earnest" this Saturday in Clement G. Morgan Park!

The Watch City Players have a summer show going up, Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest.

It's going up Saturday, July 26th at 7pm in an outdoor performance at Clement G. Morgan Park at 60 Columbia St. in Cambridge, MA. Admission is free but donations are gladly accepted.

This show is fun and funny, but what really makes it special is that it's all about gender and gender variation. Some characters are gender-flipped, some are reinterpreted as trans or nonbinary; even the whole idea of Earnest is based around the lead characters exploring their own gender identities outside of the ones assigned to them. It's an interesting and fun queering of the text.

ABJ to close or change ownership

(ABJ Auto Repair is in Somerville, and I know that many davis square people go there).  The scoop: Al, the owner of ABJ Auto Repair, died last year.  Since then, one of his employees took over the business, but he has decided that managing is not his cup of tea, and he's retiring as of this Saturday.  Al's daughter hopes to take over, but that's not certain yet.  Let's hope Al's daughter is able to take over the business and not only keep the crew of very skilled mechanics employed, but keep the business running!
