Big deal bird nest?

This is a bit outside Davis Square, but does anyone know what kind of bird has nested in the building across from the Fresh Pond Shopping Center that's drawing such a huge crowd over there?

Red-tailed hawks. There are three babies, possibly fledged by now. They're super-cute.

As of this afternoon, people were still waiting for them to make their first flight. I think that might be why there are *so* many people around.

It is a really large crowd, isn't it? Birders are nice people, if a bit eager to talk your ear off--I learned more than I necessarily wanted to know about red-tailed hawks, but got some cool looks through someone's scope.

Thanks for asking, I'd been wondering why there were people with scopes/binos hanging there.

Drove by there last night and the crowd was massive! Some guy yelled "IS SOMEONE GONNA JUMP OFFA THAT BUILDING!?!?" and I was lucky enough to yell "NO, IT'S BIRDS!" before traffic started moving again. Good times, good times.

wish i had been aware when they were smaller, they grew damn fast...

Rush Hour Naturalists

I've been over several times to go to whole foods and can't help but chuckle at the people sitting on the fresh pond mall side, in the teeny grass strip triangle at the mall entrance, in 90 degree heat, with rush hour gridlock traffic idling by them literally on all sides...

Hooray for the wildlife, but some of those birders have screws loose
