Bento Boxes?

Anyone know where I might be able to acquire some bento boxes around here?

The "Japantown" of boston seems to be located in the Porter Square Galleria (where Uno's was), I'd suggest looking there.

Not sure if you'd consider it "Around Here" or if carryout is an option, but they have a pretty substantial Bento Box lunch at the Ginger Pad restaurant in Burlington at the Wayside Commons strip mall (the one with LL Bean, Borders, etc)

are you looking to have a restaurant give you a bento lunch or are you looking to purchase actual bento boxes so you can make bento lunches at home? :)

Tokai, the knick-knack store in Porter Square should have some. Greenward might have "bento boxes" of the Laptop Lunch variety. Kofuku in Harvard Square will also have bento boxes, but a smaller variety than Tokai in Porter.

[identity profile] clevernonsense.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
i went with that thought in mind and they (Tokai) only had a couple, very expensive, and very old-lady-design bento boxes.

Amazon sells them for fairly cheap :p

Really? I'd been drooling over some Totoro bento boxes they had for a while. But then again, I haven't been there for quite a while. Their stock has probably changed.

[identity profile] misterthorn.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
no i think that's what i saw this weekend, the totoro ones.

[identity profile] clevernonsense.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, i'm also talking about my visit there 4+ years ago, so my statement is woefully out of date.

TOTORO?? I need to go over there now.

for all things totoro --> kofuki in harvard square. It's insane. I don't know how I survived. Not to mention they also have the movie showing in a loop.

[identity profile] omg-anna.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
omg, i wanted that huge totoro chair SO BAD

[identity profile] nyusha81.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
and the backpack! the backpack!

[identity profile] misterthorn.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Tokai! Thanks, I can never remember the name of it!

[identity profile] contradictacat.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Neither could I, but I figured "That store in Porter Square with all the stuff" would be less than helpful. And then I asked the Internet. Thanks, Internet!

[identity profile] misterthorn.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, the Internet. I've heard of that.

[identity profile] syntheticnature.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Greenward doesn't have the Laptop Lunches brand, but they have other bento-ish boxes. Cambridge Naturals and Whole Foods have the Laptop Lunches per se and a couple of others.

(I just bought one for my daughter to start preschool, and now I realize the LL is quite huge for her needs, so this posting was quite timely for me.)

Having seen a few there just this past weekend, I can confirm rethcir's suggestion, with one slightly pedantic correction: so-called "Little Tokyo" is actually in the Porter Exchange Building (where City Sports and CitiBank are), not the Galleria (where Uno's was).

You did mean to make your own lunches, right? As in, you're not looking for a place to get lunch, you're looking for a place to get empty bento boxes for your own use?

...and there's also Lotte Market outside Central Square on Mass Ave, close to MIT... not sure if they have them, but it might be worth a call or visit.

You can order online from a few places, if you don't like what you're seeing in local stores:

http://www.from-japan-with-love.com/stgo.html

http://www.jbox.com/BENTO

Those are the ones that have the biggest selections, I believe.

[identity profile] talonvaki.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Reliable Market in Union Square has them, I think. If they do, they'd be over near the saki and soju. They're a Korean market, but they have a lot of Japanese products.

I seem to recall there being bento boxes on a lower shelf, near the saki sets and chopsticks.

[identity profile] icecreamempress.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I have seen bento boxes there.

[identity profile] balsamicdragon.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
What they said :) I'm only posting because I liked your user name and I was wondering if it came from Order of the Stick?

[identity profile] georgy.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Not sure if they have bento boxes, but I HIGHLY recommend Ebisuya Market in Medford Square (they are the former owners of Kotobukiya).

[identity profile] zard.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
They have a few kinds of bento boxes. They also have anything you'd want to put IN the boxes.

*nodnod* Oh, absolutely. Worth the bus ride from Davis; I make it out there once a week or so. Much bigger space than they formerly had, you can order sushi to be made while you do the rest of your shopping ... while I'm sad it's no longer as convenient, they have more space to have a wider selection of everything (including bento boxes!), so.

the little store in Harvard Sq - across from Urban Outfitters - i think it's called Kofuki, with a giant Totoro outside. They have a million different ones, and cheaper than Tokai :)

[identity profile] fefie.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Just to say I love your icon and appreciate the tip in this thread about the place in Harvard Sq to buy all things Totoro.

[identity profile] nyusha81.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
you're welcome :)

http://www.ebisuyamarket.com/ is the new Kotobukiya. They'ed in medford now. They often have bento boxes for sale. Typically, it's more the functional "plastic, sealable box." and not the fancy wooden ones.

Reliable is similar, and usually a little cheaper. They may have less though. In both cases, the selection seems to change often, depending on what they get shipped.

You might also want to try H-Mart in Burlington.

[identity profile] saraheeyore.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, HMart has quite a few! (and I second Ebisuya, too.)

[identity profile] icecreamempress.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Can they be pinku (that's Japanese for pink) or any girl color?

OH MY GOD I HAVE BEEN ON THE INTERNET TOO LONG
