Darul Kebab open

Heard that Darul Kebab is open. Anyone tried it?

It's the new halal Bangladeshi/Indian/Pakistani place
in the old KFC spot at the corner of Mass Ave. and Walden
in North Cambridge.

So whatever Banjo's was is gone, I take it? That spot seems doomed!

Did banjo's actually ever exist? I sort of assumed it was a front for the CIA...(If it was the mob, it would be an actual working restaurant)

I went to Banjo's during its first week, so it did briefly exist. But not for long. Here's my earlier thread about it.

I like this comment.

And I didn't think Banjo's had ever opened, either. Doesn't seem like a particularly cursed spot -- it's just been waiting for someone to actually BE there.

I heard the KFC went out of business because the bridge closed, which was the main route for the majority of its customers. It did in fact close down a few months after the bridge was shut down, but I don't know how valid the reasoning is.

I walked by DK yesterday and it was open & empty, which doesn't mean anything considering the weather :)

Once Banjo's opened, they actually Were there, but the food was also just there. The employees were really nice, though.

Hm. Did that make sense? I am le tired.

I went to Banjo's twice. The BBQ pork and beef were decent for the price, but pretty much everything else was mediocre-to-godawful.

Banjo's was terrible. Just awful. Here's hoping this place is an improvement.

The thing that puzzles me about Darul Kebab is that it also serves burgers (based on the signs). Not entirely Middle Eastern. Not entirely American.
If, from what I've read, they are selling curry and rice dishes, then it might work. However, I don't understand the logic of competing with Annapurna.

Somewhere I recall hearing that Annapurna objected to Darul Kebab on the grounds that Darul stole Annapurna's menu.

There's a long tradition in retail of opening a shop that sells foo within sight of an existing shop that sells foo; it works out more often than you'd think — sometimes to almost absurd lengths: there are entire blocks of Brick Lane in London where more than half the storefronts arel Indian restaurants.

We went there on opening day (12/24). It was delicious, though the service was slow.

They spell it Darul Kabab, which may matter if you're trying to look it up at a site like Yelp, Chowhound, DiningIn, etc. Their printed menu lists a website but it's not up yet.

Yes, I'm commenting in June for a post in December of last year.

damn. six months later and the website still says "coming soon!"
