Parcel Paranoia

This morning the Lasership guy dropped off a parcel on Simpson Ave (where I live) and placed it between the swinging outer door and the security door without ringing the doorbell. I didn't get to see the Lasership courier by the time I got to the door.

I picked it up 15-30 seconds later and went back inside (I live on the ground level), then 5-10 seconds later I hear someone walk up the steps, open the swinging door, and that's when I saw approximately a 5'6" asian (possibly Korean, I'm Korean, and my gut feeling was that he was Korean in his late 30's to early 40's), but it could have been a mexican guy. He was wearing a ballcap (possibly blue color).

He walked back down the steps to his mini-van (beige color? Non-new or very old model with license plate 311LV or something like that) and drove away before I could get my camera. It seems like he's following  parcel trucks and stealing parcels on quiet neighborhoods.

I reported it to the Somerville PD, just thought the community should know.

P.S. Recent comments suggest the same person could have been the courier.
P.P.S. It probably was the courier.
P.P.P.S. My UPS package that arrived is now missing.
P.P.P.P.S. A neighbor delivered my missing UPS package (delivered to wrong house, I guess).

You may also want to call the delivery company to tell them they are being trailed. If they're not having anyone sign for the packages, the delivery company may be held responsible and have to pay for the merchandise. It's in their interest to follow up on your report.

Done. There's only one driver for Somerville from Lasership, so their dispatch will let the driver know what's going on.

This is the first I've heard of 'Lasership' -- are they a brand-new competitor to UPS and FedEx?

I'm not sure of brand new. A few Amazon shipments use Lasership.

Ehhh...not really? They handle shipping for retailers, as far as I've seen. Amazon especially. If I'm not getting an Amazon order via UPS, I'm usually getting it via Lasership.

Wow, I just googled Lasership because, like Ron, I hadn't heard of them (and a large portion of my own job is shipping and receiving!).

Which says that they are (sometimes?) delivered by un-uniformed couriers in un-branded regular cars... Which answers a question we had here recently, where there was a minivan outside our office with the back FULL of Amazon boxes. My coworkers and I were wondering if he was just a super-loyal Amazon customer or what; seemed too odd that he would be making deliveries in a plain minivan. But I guess not!

Hmm... very intersting! I wish I was there to see if the Lasership courier was the same guy or not. :(

That might be the most likely case, as I didn't see a Lasership van or truck when this occurred.

Yeah, I don't think we actually saw that driver in this case, just the loaded-up van parked out front.

So I guess if the guy who came back to your door was the same guy who had just made the delivery, and not a potential thief, there's still the question of why he was coming back.... Hm.

I have seen the Lasership guy who delivers in Davis Square a couple of times (I have a sign on my door asking that delivery people ring the doorbell, and he has). My recollection is that he was an Asian man in an unmarked car.

A while back I took down the license plate of a guy in a minivan full of Amazon boxes. I saw him do something on the porch of a neighbor's house (Ossipee Road) and drive away. Given the package problem we've had here, I was a bit paranoid at the time. Sounds like it's just the courier.

Sigh. It looks like my UPS package got stolen. It was delivered to my front porch at 3:04PM when I stepped out for an hour, and it's nowhere to be found.

I contacted the postal police at 617-654-5922, UPS, and the company I purchased the product. I guess it's time to set-up my home security camera to face outside the porch, too. :(

Sigh, I first contacted the Somerville PD, then they told me to contact the postal police (which I left a voice message), and the Sergeant there told me it was a Somerville PD issue. They might have thought I said USPS and not UPS.

Too much paranoia for one day. My UPS package was delivered to me by a neighbor that was mistakenly delivered. Now I have to straighten all this out again.

i just want to hug you. all too often i am the one making a completely unnecessary fuss because i think something happened and i become paranoid and then it ends up working out perfectly fine. glad to not be alone.
