Packages Stolen from Porch

I just want to give a heads up to people in the Willow Ave / Morrison Ave area that my building (a 3-family) has had 3 packages apparently stolen from our front porch over the last couple weeks. All the packages were delivered in the middle of day on weekdays while we all were at work.  Has anyone else in the neighborhood had any problems like this recently? I'm very sad to have to do signature-required delivery from now on.

First, I'm sorry, this sucks.

This foes happen every year, usually worst around Christmastime. Our solution has been to get a box and put a sign on the mailbox asking delivery folk to put all packages inside. I figure that they're not going to bother coming up on the porch to look around for packages, when so many are just lying out, visible. That seems to have worked.

Not here, thankfully.

Despite being a great neighborhood, the area between the bike path and Ball Square has been known to have frequent package thefts for as long as I've lived around here. It's really shitty but it's a risk to have things delivered to your porch in Somerville. You may luck out for a while but eventually your luck will run out.

We're lucky where I live that it's easy for the delivery truck drivers to leave things on our porch in a way that the packages are not visible from the street. I usually have things shipped to work but the few times I've had them delivered here they were fine. I like lillibet's suggestion of creating your own way of hiding packages from the street - I think delivery drivers are aware of the issue here and will use whatever you come up with. The thieves are almost certainly not walking up onto every porch and snooping around, which is extremely risky, but are only going up on porches where they can see a package.

I'm at Willow - Morrison and have had two missing packages in the last few months. Sad to realize that this is a frequent occurrence.

Do you have a back porch? We have a sign on our front door saying "please leave packages in the back" and our mail carriers have always done so, even though it seems like it must be more work for them (requires them to walk down the driveway and through a somewhat tricky to open rear gate).

Just a thought. Sorry that happened to you! It does seem to be a common urban problem.
