Family Dollar closing on Somerville Ave (not Davis Square)

The Family Dollar on Somerville Avenue, near Conway Park, has a STORE CLOSING banner hanging outside. As far as I know, our Family Dollar in Davis Square is staying open.

The few times I've gone there, the Somerville Ave. store seemed less cluttered, better organized, and friendlier than the Davis store.

The one in Davis Sq is such an eyesore. Are upside down, faded cigarette ads the best they can do for their storefront display? They could make so much more money if they tried to make it look like a store someone would want to shop in.

As much as I dislike smoking, as long as we've got addicts, someone's got to be selling what they need.

I agree that the Somerville Ave store was more organized. I much preferred this location to the Davis location. They've been there for years, I was surprised that they are leaving. Actually, they're turning into a Dollar Tree. Which in a sense I prefer. I feel I don't have to hike to Twin City anymore :P

I used to get laundry deter ham at that Family Dollar which I stopped doing because they raised the prices. They were actually cheaper to get at Star or CVS. I will miss a lot of the stuff that they sell that Dolar Tree doesn't though.

All of the stuff that isn't a dollar is half off so I was in there shopping a week or two ago and they had a sign hanging from the ceiling that said something like, Dollar Tree coming soon.

I knew something seemed odd. I walked by there around 8:30 about a week or so ago and figured I'd stop in but noticed it was closed so I kept walking, I didn't think to go look at the hours. Thanks for the info. I wonder when they are closing and the Dollar Tree will be there?

Here's the scoop on the changes of the stores. All the ones listed at the bottom of this article will become Dollar Express stores, which no one quite knows what is yet. None of those are Somerville stores, though the on in Cambridge will change.

Not sure what happened with the link but here it is. And yes, that was meant to say Family Dollar.
